Job overview

My client, a leading manufacturer of catering and baking equipment, is looking to employ an Operations Manager.

The Operations Manager’s responsibilities include formulating an overall strategy, managing people and establishing policies. To be successful in this role, you should be a thoughtful leader and a confident decision-maker. The Operations Manager will report directly to the Managing Director.

Key responsibilities (not limited to)
- Taking responsibility for the Operational requirements of the Company
- Responsible for the ordering of stock and the import and export of it
- Control the Warehouse, vehicles, branches deliveries schedules, organize trucks form transport companies, schedule deliveries of trucks / bakkies.
- Do monthly safety meetings: Control the fire extinguishers /services intervals.
- In charge of the security and make sure that the company premises are safe and clean at all times.
- Make sure the alarm systems and camera systems are in order and working.
- In charge of vehicles service and repairs: trucks, bakkies, forklifts.
- Liaise with the insurance company and make sure that the company are insured and comply to insurance companies requirements.
- Weekly and monthly stock takes.
- Manage and control the stock so that it in budget within the interest of the companies stock holding requirements.
- Make out orders to the factory and suppliers / import & local so that stock quantities are achieved. (Minimum / Maximum stock levels.)
- Implementing systems to streamline the business stock and fulfil the demand from the marketing team so that customers are satisfied.
- Ensure implementation of company growth strategy.
- Oversee day-to-day operations.
- Design strategy and set goals for growth.
- Maintain budgets and optimize expenses.
- Control product costings and make sure that the equipment selling prices are in line with cost and that profit margins are met.
- Evaluate and improve operations and financial performance.
- Provide solutions to issues (e.g. profit decline, employee conflicts, loss of business to competitors)
- Monthly report to company directors regarding stock control and levels, orders outstanding, imports, exports, deliveries.

Required skills and knowledge
- Experience in the manufacturing industry essential.
- Excellent working knowledge of Pastel.
- Knowledge of business process and functions (Finance, HR, Procurement, Operations etc.)
- Experience in working with different currencies
- Strong financial background and computer literate (PASTEL / SAGE essential/ MRP)
- Highly organised and attention to detail
- Sense of responsibility, honest, sincere and trustworthy
- Hands on approach very important.
