With 30 retail brands that trade in fashion, value, jewellery, accessories, sporting apparel, cellular, homeware and furniture, TFG is the leading speciality retailer in South Africa.

The Group has a presence in Botswana, Zambia, Namibia, Lesotho and Eswatini through various retail brands.

The Group operates in the UK through its Phase Eight, Whistles and Hobbs businesses as well as Australia through the Retail Apparel Group which owns a number of successful brands in that territory.

The role will report into the **Chief Strategy Officer**.

**Responsibilities**:

- Entrench, protect and promote **TFG’s reputation and corporate brand** ensuring these are strengthened throughout our corporate communication strategy
- Conceptualise, develop and implement a comprehensive and executable **corporate reputation and media management strategy** for the Group.
- Manage all media relations, external communications, **public relations**, and owned channels within social media.
- Ensure that **internal communications** are efficient, effective and regularly measured for maximum impact.
- Support other functions by making sure their communications with stakeholders uphold the Group’s reputation and promote its corporate brand.

**Key Performance Areas**:

- Develop and execute a comprehensive **corporate communications strateg**y and plan that protects and promotes **TFG’s reputation and corporate brand**.
- Ensure that TFG’s corporate reputation is upheld and strengthened through all activities and protect its reputation as and when necessary
- Safeguard the Group’s Corporate Brand, ensuring it is supported and promoted similarly.
- Manage both proactively and reactively all external communication, including but not limited to TFG corporate brand, sustainability and CSI
- Build key **relationships with media** by developing an engagement strategy that promotes regular interaction and publications. Manage **external communications**, including tone-setting, drafting, researching, engaging with key stakeholders and selecting appropriate communication channels for delivery.
- Oversee all media relations and press releases
- Handle both proactive and reactive PR
- Analyse media trends
- Develop relationships with the media especially financial-type media
- Manage Financial Media Round table and FYE results presentations
- Drive Corporate stance with regards to ‘proudly SA’
- Become the financial media leg to retail brands
- Develop and establish a sound **reputation and risk management process**, including the development of an issues management guide for internal use and a **crisis management** policy. Manage internal and external crises as they may occur.
- TFG Social media & traditional media monitoring and reporting
- Research, planning and development of scenarios
- Copywriting of responses for crises communications
- Develop a cross-group **internal communications strategy**. Measure internal communications effectiveness and drive research initiatives to introduce new channels/ methods/ technologies into the internal communication space.
- Set standard and tone for all internal corporate communication
- Select best communication channels and content per stakeholder
- Manage all internal group communications for both head office and store staff through the Internal Corporate Communications co-ordinator (e.g. HO & store intranet, Group HR, CSI and Sustainability, etc.)
- Develop a **digital strategy for the Group’s corporate sites and media channels**. Manage, maintain, update and monitor all TFG sites and social media channels proactively, and where necessary, develop new platforms for communication.
- Ownership of TFG corporate sites
- Ownership and management of TFG’s Social Media channels (including Facebook, Instagram, linked in and others)

**Requirements:
- BA or equivalent in Journalism or Communications,
- 10 years Senior level experience in corporate communications, agencies or journalism (or a combination)
- 5 years crisis communication
- 5 years Copy writing (both traditional and digital)
- 5 years Management of internal teams
- 5 years Strategic planning
