Production Manager

**PURPOSE OF THE JOB**:
Ensure that manufacturing facility and processes run reliably and efficiently. Working together with supervisors, production staff and colleagues, to ensure that products are manufactured to a world class standard and are delivered within realistic/expected lead times.
**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:
Production Management:
- Manage all resources and ensure that the factory maintains production of finished products at the required quality and efficiency level
- Ensure daily targets are met and production lines are run efficiently
- Plan production schedule based on back orders of stock and sub-contractor lead times
- Provide feedback to clients regarding lead times on their orders and any changes as they may arise
- Liaise with suppliers continually regarding lead times, pricing and forecasting
- Ensure all Sales Orders and Works Orders are captured daily
- Ensure that the MRP system is used correctly and all movement of goods is captured accurately
- Generate daily production schedule
- Monitor stock shortages and long lead time items for reorder and forecasting
- Ensure all works orders are correctly completed
Process Management:
- Manage all processes and procedures to ensure they are correctly followed by the full production team at all times
- Maintain excellent quality standards with regards to processes and products
- Create and update Standard Operating Procedures as and when required
- Investigate non-conformances, conduct root cause analysis and implement necessary corrective actions and preventative actions
- Manage ISO and SABS requirements and maintain ISO and SABS certification
- Conduct internal audits as required by SABS and ISO
Staff Management:
- Manage all production staff to always perform optimally and correctly
- Ensure that any and all staff members are trained and kept up to date with all relevant production requirements and procedures
- Maintain an excellent communication channel to and from the production floor
- Manage Production Controller and Stores Person as well as monitor their performance and duties
Production Maintenance:
- Ensure all machinery and tools are well maintained as to not affect productions ability to complete work.
- Ensure all machines, fans and lights are off, staff has all left and the windows and doors are closed & locked.
Health and Safety:
- Ensure that the production areas are compliant with the OHaSA and that all areas are safe working spaces.
- Ensure the facility is clean and safe before leaving daily
Other:
- May be required to collect or deliver stock or orders from time to time
**REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE**
- Diploma or any similar production or operational qualification essential
- Degree in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering an advantage
- Minimum 3 years solid working experience within a manufacturing/production environment
- Minimum 3 years experience leading a production team
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, Excel) and ERP systems (SAGE, SAP etc)
- Excellent communication skill on all levels
- A lean and efficient mind-set
- Experience in the following standards such as SABS and ISO9001 an advantage
- Ability to work independently and under pressure
- Own transport essential
- Fully bilingual (Afrikaans & English)
