Communications Specialist

**Introduction**

**Role Purpose**

To offer professional external communication support to GEMS, which may include, but is not limited to creating content, facilitating integrated communication to all stakeholders (members, healthcare service providers, Human Resource practitioners, the Department of Health, prospective members, Metropolitan Health (MH) Operations and GEMS Service Provider Network) through various communication channels in line with the GEMS strategic direction, communications strategies and brand.

**Requirements**:

- Matric.
- BA or BTech degree in Communication Science, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field.
- 3 - 5 years of work experience in a communication-related environment.

**Duties & Responsibilities**

**General**
- To work seamlessly across departmental or team boundaries in a collaborative and constructive manner to implement the strategic direction of GEMS and Momentum Health Solutions (MHS).
- To demonstrate a commitment to customer service excellence and delivery against the requirements of GEMS and MHS.
- To work within the policies and procedures of Momentum Metropolitan (MM), MHS and GEMS at all times.

**External communication**
- Partnering with teams from across GEMS, the GEMS Service Provider Network (SPN) and MHS to develop external communications plans that support the GEMS and MHS strategic objectives and strengthen the respective brands.
- Developing external messaging that reflects the GEMS brand personality, demonstrates an understanding of our audiences and is professionally and plainly written.
- Coordinating messages across channels, ensuring that we deliver our external communications in a planned, targeted and well-organised way.
- Socialisation of key stakeholders to facilitate member touch point awareness ahead of external communication campaigns.
- Agility when the need for urgent communications arises.
- Working with stakeholders to develop creative approaches for communicating with GEMS audiences, especially communication specialists from GEMS and the GEMS SPN as well as Heads of Departments in the MHS environment.
- Overall responsibility (GEMS Comms Hub) for maintaining the integrity, structure and high-quality content of GEMS external communication.
- Overall responsibility (System letter custodian) for maintaining the integrity, structure and high-quality content of system-generated external communication.
- Working with project managers and sponsors to provide external communication support for projects which enable the GEMS and MHS Strategic Objectives.
- Writing content to a professional standard and distributing it through the GEMS approved channels.
- Proofreading and editing communication material emanating from the GEMS SPN.
- Facilitating the approval of external communications in line with the GEMS Communication Process.
- Measuring and reviewing the effectiveness of communication channels and making recommendations to the GEMS as appropriate.
- Generating content for communications with other audiences as required by the MHS and GEMS from time to time.
- Conceptualising, activating and executing campaigns and events.
- Researching and identifying new processes/technologies and making recommendations for use and purchase, including training others to use the new methods and technical tools where required.
Tracking and managing project budgets.
- Supporting role in maintaining the integrity, structure and high-quality content of the GEMS website.
- Ensure strict service level agreement adherence at all times to avoid financial penalties.
- Daily engagement with respresentatives from GEMS to facilitate a mutually beneficial working relationship with our client.
