The Faculty of Education has a rich history of engaging with key issues in South African education, and offers innovative, research‐based Teacher Education and interdisciplinary postgraduate programmes. The Department of Educational Studies is committed to clarifying and strengthening the role of Teacher Education in the broader societal transformative project. The Department therefore introduces students to the diverse foundations of education practice. Our research and teaching expertise are in the interdisciplinary areas of: history and philosophy of education; sociology of education and critical curriculum studies; educational leadership, management and policy studies; educational technologies; comparative education; and research methodology.
- Facilitate learning and teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels in BEd, PGCE and Honours programmes
- Conduct research and publish in the relevant field
- Undertake undergraduate and postgraduate supervision
- Provide academic leadership and administration
- Undertake curriculum development and assessment
- Participate in community engagement and outreach activities of the Department
- Serving on institutional committees

**Minimum Requirements**
- A Masters degree in Teacher Education related to Social Science and History/Geography
- History 3 or Geography 3 or Environmental Science 3
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating learning and teaching at undergraduate levels and postgraduate levels
- Evidence of academic publications and other scholarly engagements in the field of Teacher Education
- Expertise and relevant experience in BEd & PGCE & Honours level teaching

**Recommendations / Added Advantage**:

- A PhD in a field relevant to Teacher Education, or progress towards a relevant Doctoral qualification would be advantageous
- Teaching experience in Social Sciences at school level will be considered an advantage
- Experience in postgraduate supervision
- Experience in Teaching Practice and teacher development
- Evidence of working with e-learning platforms using online and blended teaching approaches-
