**LECTURER: Department of Geography, Environmental Studies & Tourism**

The University of the Western Cape (UWC) enjoys national and international acclaim for its continuing contribution to democratic change in South Africa and for making quality education accessible to all South Africans. We wish to appoint a Lecturer in the Department of Geography, Environmental Studies & Tourism who will be highly motivated and willing to make a significant contribution to a dynamic and supportive Faculty dedicated to teaching and research, as well as to overall student development. The Department offers a three-year BA degree, with Geography and Environmental Studies, and/or Tourism, as majors, a BA Honours degree in Geography and Environmental Studies, MA and PhD degrees.

**_Responsibilities will include:_**
- Contribute to the learning and teaching programme at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Willingness to learn and use new teaching technologies, and work in an online environment.
- Supervision of Honours research projects and MA theses.
- Developing their own research and publications profile.
- Contribute to departmental academic administration.
- Contribute to departmental and institutional community engagement efforts.

**Minimum Requirements**
- A Master’s degree in Geography, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating inspirational and transformative student learning experiences.
- The ability to teach modules with a focus on urban geography, and supervise MA students.
- A research and/or creative publications record commensurate with what would be expected of a Lecturer.

Added advantage would be:_**
- PhD degree (or near completion) in Geography or a closely related field.
- Expertise in urban geography broadly defined; migration studies; intersections with environment and development; and/or food systems would be a strong recommendation.
