**Main purpose of the job**:

- **_To assist the Director and Administrator with all cadaveric and non-cadaveric education events held in the Wits Advanced Surgical Skills lab area_**

**Location**:

- **Wits Medical School - Parktown, Johannesburg**

**Key performance areas**:

- Maintains an up-to-date inventory of equipment and supplies and coordinates deliveries/returns for educational events
- Cleans or assists in the cleaning of technical equipment through established protocols and/or instructions for usage
- Orders and receives specimen supplies and equipment for all events
- Maintains a presence at all events assisting faculty and learners with equipment supply and basic A/V needs
- Prepares animal tissue specimens required for skill training
- Prepares human cadavers and assists in preparing stations for teaching purposes
- Responsible for clean-up after events according to established procedures
- Coordinates additional/special requests regarding the cleaning of spaces with the housekeeping manager
- Assist with teaching basic surgical procedures to students

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **Grade 12**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **Minimum of 1 year of working experience**

**Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities**:

- **Ability and willingness to work with cadaver and animal material**:

- **Experience working in an advanced surgical skills lab**:

- Knowledgeable in the administration of the surgical department at Wits medical school
- Ability to respond after hours for important, timely, or urgent matters
- Work hours vary to include some early morning, evening, and weekend events.
- Team player who operates in a fast-paced team-oriented setting
- Ability to be discrete and maintain confidentiality
- Strong work ethic with the ability to prioritize deadlines
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to multi-task
