The Lecturer position will be responsible for the coordination of the Postgraduate BCMP Honours degree courses including the BCMP Honours in Emergency Medicine degree and the development of new BCMP Honours degrees. The post will provide blended learning with face-to-face clinical teaching, online training and learning within the Department of Family Medicine and Primary Care for the Division of Clinical Associates Bachelor of Clinical Medical Practice (BCMP) programme training clinical associate students. The position will report to the Head of Division of Clinical Associates.

**_Specific Responsibilities for Division of Clinical Associates BCMP Honours Coordinator:_**
1. Teaching and Learning activities for the Division of Clinical Associates
a. Coordinate the BCMP Honours part-time postgraduate degree programmes
ii. Facilitate all aspect of BCMP Honours in Emergency Medicine courses: SCMD4006A, SCMD4007A, SCMD4008A, SCMD4009A (clinical and research)
iii. Coordinate with Division of Emergency Medicine Head and EM Preceptors
iv. Coordinate with appropriate divisions, departments in School/Faculty for operations
v. Lecture as appropriate for student advancement
b. Develop, design and implement further postgraduate BCMP Honours degrees
i. Implement BCMP Honours degrees in Anaesthesia, Surgery, Maternal Health, Paediatrics, Primary Health Care among other focus areas
ii. Develop curricula and submit to Teaching and Leaning Committees for approval
iii. Coordinate with appropriate divisions, departments in School/Faculty to develop and bring to fruition full operation of BCMP Honours degrees
c. Support teaching, facilitating & learning for Undergraduate students
i. Teaching as appropriate for SCMD1001A (97 students), SCMD2001A (92 students), SCMD3003A (57 students)
ii. Preparing problem based learning, case based learning and small group learning
iii. Develop and present blended learning, technology enhanced pedagogies
d. Teaching clinical skills in Skills laboratory for teaching, facilitating & learning
e. Teaching in the Clinical setting for teaching, facilitating & learning
2. Citizenship, Academic and administrative activities
a. Assist in all aspects of postgraduate and undergraduate curriculum design and implementation including assessment test preparation, invigilating, marking
b. Participate, contribute to Division, Department, School and Faculty wide committees
3. Support Research activities related to postgraduate and undergraduate Division programme
a. Develop, draft, submit research protocols
b. Conduct research studies: data collection, questionnaires, interviewing, reports, etc

4. Pursue Professional Development

**Requirements**:

- BCMP or RN or MBChB/MBBCh degree required
- Master degree completed, or in process near completion, in relevant field required
- 2 - 5 years clinical experience as clinical associate or nurse or doctor required
- Registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa or with South African Nursing Council, in good standing
- Sound knowledge of South African health services
- Understanding of and commitment to primary health care

**Recommendations**:

- 2-3 years academic teaching experience advantageous
- 1-2 years as coordinator of academic programme advantageous
- Completion of Postgraduate Diploma in Health Science Education or similar advantageous
