Education and Youth Development Manager

**Responsibilities**:
To co-ordinate and manage the Youth Development and Education Projects and to organise and run the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Orchestra and the Cape Town Philharmonic Youth Wind Ensemble, plus the Cape Town Philharmonic Orchestra Music Academy.

CPYO/CPYWE
- Responsible for recruitment (via twice yearly main auditions, plus other auditions as and when required) and maintaining records on all student players, in collaboration with the conductors.
- Keeping attendance records on all students.
- Scheduling rehearsals and performances including selecting conductors and organising and keeping a strict budget for all such activities inline. Developing and maintaining a dashboard of all activities.
- Devise and plan concerts with appropriate themes including organisation of all financial and logístical aspects e.g. budgets, hiring venues, refreshments etc. Maintain a master schedule of activities.
- Planning and co-ordinate teachers and coaches for various instruments of the ensembles.
- Booking of ad hoc players when necessary
- Arrange payments to players when necessary (pay sheets to be signed off by CEO)
- Ensure that the correct music scores are available for all concerts
- Liaising with the two youth orchestra Librarians
- Liaise with the marketing department re publicity for concerts
- Maintain, develop and disburse instruments of the CPO collection on a yearly basis
- Administer certain scholarships available for students in the ensemble programmes - liaise with CPO management.
- Arrange relevant transport for concerts and rehearsals, in consultation with the CPO General Manager
- Personally, transport students when necessary to concerts and rehearsals
- Responsible for the organisation of ensembles touring, both nationally and internationally, should the opportunities arise
- Organise guest artist visits to Cape Town for purposes of guest conducting, master classes with students and teachers and interfacing with other local musical education institutions.

CPO MUSIC ACADEMY
- Annual Strategic Planning - Develop and maintain a Dashboard of the year’s activities

Properly align the trajectory of CPO Academy and Masidlale to ensure that they focus on the same goals
- Oversees the administration of the CPO Music Academy
- Assist/monitor teachers’ record keeping; keep attendance records
- Arrange monthly payments for teachers (pay sheets to be signed off by CEO)
- Planning of termly internal exams and co-ordinate/advise on external exams
- Coordinates all teaching staff and venues, in addition to the allocation of instruments
- Ensure that teachers teach with the appropriate level of discipline, professionalism and enthusiasm. Take disciplinary action where necessary.
- Ensure that learners are committed, disciplined and achieve good results. Take disciplinary action where necessary
- Coordinate the groundwork for graduates of the Masidlale project to advance into the higher-grade ensembles with the Masidlale Project Managers.
- Scheduling rehearsals and performances for all junior ensembles including selecting and organising and keeping a strict budget for all such activities.
- Arrange transport for students who graduated from Masidlale to the Academy
- Source and obtain other crucial teaching materials, keeping a strict budget
- Filling in as a teacher in case of emergencies

CPO
- Liaising with local schools, organise, schedule, present and oversee CPO school concerts
- Coordinate with the advance CPO schedule as well as the timetables of the schools
- Develop and maintain contacts with international leaders in the field of youth ensembles
- Being front runner and assist in the planning of CPO popular / community concerts
