Packaging Manager

**Location**:Atlantis - Western Cape**

**Reporting to**: Operations Executive

**Overall Responsibility**:Manages and oversee the packaging staff on designated shifts to achieve operational objectives in a high speed FMCG environment.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**KPA 1: Planning and Organisation**
- Observes, analyse and determine all standards for packaging lines and ensure compliance to all schedule for processes and develop and maintain all packing orders effectively
- Monitor and recommend improvements in processes to increase efficiency of packaging department
- Maintain and ensure compliance to packaging schedule and assign specific tasks to all employees and monitor all packing equipment and supplies
- Manage all work according to packing schedule and maintain an inventory of materials and completion of all projects with required timeframe.
- Ensure optimum use of packaging resources
- Liaise with technical and maintenance departments to ensure optimal performance of the packaging function

**KPA 2: Stakeholder Management and Engagement**Work effectively with other 3rd party suppliers
- Work cross-functionally with team to ensure adherence and achievement of key deliverables.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with all external vendors and contractors and improve efficiency process through incorporation of new technology.
- Lead and manage the various teams to produce results in line with expectations

**KPA 3: Compliance and Controls**
- Monitor product standards and implement quality programs
- Maintain control over inspections to ensure the packaging meets quality and food safety requirements continuously.
- Implement and adhere to company policies and procedures
- Complying with current audit standards
- Ensure that health and safety guidelines are followed

**KPA 4: Efficiency Optimisation**
- Develop and motivate the cost-effective alternatives and improvements to the packaging process to ensure maximum capacity and efficiency of the plant
- Maximize the efficiency of lines and ensuring the effective employment utilization
- Coordinate with quality and warehouse departments to monitor everyday activities of units and ensure efficient working of both manufacturing and packaging department and ensure continuous improvement in same

**KPA 5: Leadership and Team Management**
- Lead and manage the supervisors/ teams ensuring optimal performance
- Recruit, develop, lead and motivate a high performing team with support from HR lead.

- Coaching and mentoring

**Requirements of the Role**:

- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain/ Engineering/Operations Management or equivalent qualification
- A minimum of 5 years experience in packaging.
- Experience in managing supervisors
- Extensive experience and Knowledge of production/manufacturing operations within FMCG. Advantage if experience within Confectionary/Dairy
- Demonstrated change management and project management experience
- Proven track record in a medium to large size organization

**Required Competencies/Skills**:

- Good business sense and a professional manner
- Good knowledge of manufacturing
- Deadline driven, and results orientated.
- Solid analytical ability as well as process and interpret data
- Computer literate (MS Office -focus on Excel / ERP System). Preference given to an Excel superuser
- Good verbal and written skills
- Develop good working relationships and trust with various teams
- Good attention to detail.
- Excellent planning and organisational skills.
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Able to handle work pressure.
