Human Resources Internship Opportunity

The Nelson Mandela Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting Nelson Mandela's legacy and advancing human rights in South Africa. We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Human Resources Intern to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist the HR Manager with HR administration tasks, including recruitment, employee onboarding, and benefits administration.
  • Coordinate the institutional and departmental induction schedule for new employees.
  • Assist with monitoring monthly demographic, leave, age, terminations analysis and report trends.
  • Arrange meetings with medical aid and pension/provident fund brokers as required.
  • Assist with coordination of completion of performance agreements aligned with organizational goals.
  • Assist with collating all performance ratings attained and submit to the HR Manager for moderation and calibration purposes.
  • Coordinate all Performance Improvement Plans (PIP) and submit to the HR Manager to ensure reasonableness of the plan.
  • Employee Wellness
  • Assist with organizing the annual Employee Wellness Day events in conjunction with the Communications department.
  • Provide input into internal communications plan and approach for the year.
  • Conduct yearly culture/employee satisfaction surveys.

Requirements:

  • Hold a qualification in Human Resources.
  • Be recently graduated with little or full-time work experience.
  • Have a demonstrable interest in human rights advocacy and constitutional issues and an interest in building a career in civil society in South Africa.
  • Be able to plan, prioritize work, meet deadlines, and work independently.
  • Be systematic and thorough in their approach to work, with excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Word & Excel, Facebook, website design, Instagram, Twitter, Google apps).
  • Show a demonstrated ability to multi-task and ability to prioritize across multiple projects and social media platforms.
  • Ability to write for public consumption.
  • Must be willing and able to work in teams and be a self-starter.
