Job Summary

As a key member of the Wasteplan team, the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate sorting and waste characterization of residual waste. This involves providing detailed ratios between recyclable materials, non-recyclable materials, organic/compostable materials, and general waste.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of all grades of recyclable materials and acceptable levels of contamination.
  • Understand and apply knowledge of when specific recyclable materials are regarded as non-recyclable.
  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of organic waste and compostable materials, including waste types that would be regarded as contamination.
  • Develop and maintain detailed knowledge of non-recyclable materials without commercial value.
  • Oversee and manage sorting staff assigned to residual waste sorting, ensuring accurate sorting and weighing of all grades of material.
  • Effectively utilize the waste audit recording and reporting system provided.
  • Communicate effectively with the Site Manager, bringing attention to issues identified in the waste audit.
  • Understand and apply the concept of representative sampling to ensure accurate waste audits.
  • Assume the role and duties of the Site Manager on days off in a seven-day working week cycle.
  • Participate in finding solutions for difficult-to-recycle waste streams.
Administrational Responsibilities
  • Ensure all training registers are correctly completed and submitted to HR on a weekly basis.
  • Identify and report operational performance issues at sites to the Operations Manager/Site Manager.
Requirements
  • Relevant degree/diploma is essential.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of working experience in the waste industry.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience with writing reports and analyzing data.
