About the Role

The Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Executive Director to lead its educational, public, and outreach programmes. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the Centre's day-to-day operations, managing its professional staff, and developing and implementing fundraising strategies.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Education and Programming
  • Develop and implement creative educational programmes, activities, and events for the Cape Town community and beyond.
  • Work with the Education Director to ensure that the Centre's programmes reflect the latest research on the Holocaust and are sensitive to the experiences of Holocaust survivors.
Exhibitions
  • Provide leadership and vision for the development of travelling exhibitions and the maintenance of the permanent exhibition.
  • Oversee the production, distribution, and viewing schedule for travelling exhibitions.
Archive
  • Have oversight of the Centre's archive.
  • Work closely with the archivist to develop and publicize the archive.
Outreach, Communication, and PR
  • Develop and implement outreach, communication, and PR strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with stakeholders, including other NPOs, human rights museums, and university faculties.
Fundraising
  • Proactively increase revenue from grants, sponsorships, and memberships.
  • Prepare and oversee the compilation of fundraising proposals.
Operational Management
  • Provide effective liaison between the Cape Town Holocaust and Genocide Centre and the Johannesburg and Durban Centres.
  • Collaborate on travelling exhibitions, national events, and visiting speakers.
Requirements

The successful candidate will have a relevant postgraduate degree or diploma in history, education, museology, or peacebuilding/human rights. They will also have management-level experience in an educational, museum, or NGO environment, with a proven track record in fundraising and team management.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with a wide range of stakeholders. They will also have a clear passion for Holocaust education and a sensitivity to the educational, political, and social context in which the Centre operates.
