Solar Engineer Job Description

Hire Resolve is seeking a skilled Solar Engineer to join our client's dynamic team. As a key member of the solar energy sector, you will design and optimize cutting-edge solar solutions to drive sustainable power generation.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead pre-bid and post-bid engineering, ensuring all required drawing/document approvals are secured.
  • Design solar PV systems (roof-top and ground mount) adhering to applicable standards.
  • Develop innovative solutions, including PV and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
  • Create electrical single-line diagrams, panel schedules, or connection diagrams for solar systems using design software.
  • Perform energy yield assessments and optimize overall design to achieve the lowest Levelized Cost of Electricity (LCOE).
  • Prepare detailed and optimized Bill of Quantities (BOQ) and Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Conduct technical site visits and gather relevant data.
  • Stay up-to-date with existing and upcoming technologies in the Solar PV space.
  • Provide technical support to business development, finance, procurement, and construction teams.
  • Communicate and coordinate with senior management for approvals and implementation strategies.

Requirements:

  • BSc Engineering (Electrical), B.Eng Engineering (Electrical), or BTech Engineering (Electrical) degree.
  • Minimum 2 years of design and project engineering experience in Solar PV, working with EPC, Developers, or in a consulting environment for Commercial and Industrial (C&I) projects.
  • Experience in utility-scale solar PV projects is a plus.
  • Excellent English written and oral communication skills.
  • Proficiency with PV design software such as PVSyst, Helioscope.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar drafting software.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and MS Project.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize, organize, and multi-task effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Available and willing to travel within South Africa and internationally as required.
  • Experience in Medium Voltage distribution design is an advantage but not a requirement.
  • Strong project management and teamwork skills.
