The Levelup is a leading player in the marketing services industry, and we're now seeking an accomplished Commercial Operations Director to join our team. As a Commercial Operations Director, you will be responsible for implementing a Logistic Link Platform (LLP) solution with control tower capabilities, driving cost reductions and efficiency improvements.

You will be accountable for identifying and executing savings opportunities, monitoring progress, and ensuring financial accountability for baseline, savings, and gainshare realization. Your primary goal will be to enhance the profitability of our clients' accounts by providing actionable insights, managing costs, and fostering collaborative relationships.

Main Responsibilities
  • Commercial Performance
    • Develop and execute commercial strategies to reduce the cost baseline for our clients.
    • Monitor and report on the financial performance of partnerships, highlighting key risks and opportunities.
    • Take ownership of account profitability, analyzing variances and providing actionable insights.
    • Create and manage budgets, as well as quarterly reforecasts to ensure alignment with client requirements.
    • Forecast monthly revenue and oversee cost control measures to drive business growth.
    • Review and manage client invoicing, ensuring timely payment and effective debt collection.
    • Lead account administration, including report development, updating, and dissemination.
    • Promote gainshare commercials with stakeholders, fostering collaborative relationships.
  • Client Engagement
    • Cultivate deep understanding of client businesses and identify areas to enhance their end-to-end supply chains.
    • Design and implement strategies tailored to meet client needs and expectations.
    • Nurture relationships with key decision-makers, maintaining open communication channels and ensuring cross-functional collaboration.
    • Maintain a proactive stance within client organizations, promoting trust, cooperation, and mutual benefits.
    • Advocate for client interests across the company.
  • Team Leadership
    • Contribute to staffing decisions for the business unit, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
    • Collaborate to retain and grow key talent within the team, fostering a positive and inclusive work environment.
    • Effectively manage individual performance, providing coaching and guidance to drive growth and improvement.
    • Promote a culture of continuous learning and business development, encouraging innovation and excellence.
    • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and employees, cultivating a motivated and professional culture that exceeds expectations.
  • Operational Excellence
    • Implement the balanced scorecard framework to drive business performance, focusing on profitability, cost management, people development, client relationships, supplier management, and internal business processes.
  • Reporting and Analysis
    • Develop, update, and disseminate reports to inform business decisions and track progress.
    • Evaluate the quality of reports generated by team members, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
    • Deliver timely, actionable reports that highlight key risks and opportunities, incorporating operational and financial analysis.
    • Prepare detailed operational reports, emphasizing performance by functional area and opportunities for improvement.
    • Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Process Optimization
    • Ensure all systems and controls are documented and managed to meet operational requirements.
    • Oversee business processes to guarantee accurate system usage and effective fleet and operational process management in accordance with client standards.
    • Develop and nurture relationships with the supporting technology team.
  • Regulatory Compliance
    • Ensure personnel administration is completed accurately and on time.
    • Review and assess processes to guarantee regulatory compliance and effective risk management.
    • Verify that operations meet environmental and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Continuous Improvement
    • Support the identification and implementation of Supply Chain Optimization projects aimed at achieving targeted savings.
    • Provide regular updates on project outcomes, highlighting realized savings.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within work teams and management.
    • Guarantee that baselines are signed off and savings recognition processes are facilitated.
  • Ad-hoc Support
    • Provide ad-hoc analysis, queries, and business support as needed.
    • Manage and deliver projects, encompassing data analysis, simulation modeling, transport modeling, and process change implementation.
    Nature of Position
    • Permanent
    • Flexibility to work extended hours and travel to Vanderbijlpark at least three times a week.
    Required Qualifications
    • B Eng Industrial or B Com Logistics.
    • BEng/BSc Engineering qualification preferred.
    • Advanced analytical or technical skills, particularly in MS Excel, SQL, and complex modeling.
    Desired Skills and Experience
    • 5-10 years of experience in Supply Chain or related business/commercial fields.
    • Supply Chain and Project Management experience, particularly in logistics, is beneficial.
    • Industrial experience and advanced knowledge of MS PowerPoint, Word, and Excel.
    • Project management experience is essential; SQL experience beneficial.
    • Transport routing and scheduling experience is a plus.
    • Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure.
    • Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable handling multiple initiatives simultaneously.
    • Strong teamwork and leadership abilities, with a focus on process improvement.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, including technical writing skills.
