Job Summary

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and managing the Civil Design team in the office and on project sites. They will work closely with the Chairman, executive directors, and project managers to direct, coordinate, and exercise functional authority for all aspects of civil projects within their area of assigned authority.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop project objectives by reviewing project proposals and plans, and conferring with management.
  2. Determine project responsibilities by identifying project phases and elements; assigning personnel to phases and elements; and reviewing bids from contractors.
  3. Determine project specifications by studying product design, customer requirements, and performance standards; completing technical studies; preparing cost estimates.
  4. Confirm product performance by designing and conducting tests.
  5. Determine project schedule by studying project plan and specifications; calculating time requirements; and sequencing project elements.
  6. Maintain project schedule by monitoring project progress; coordinating activities; and resolving problems.
  7. Controls project plan by reviewing design, specifications, and plan and schedule changes, recommending actions.
  8. Controls project costs by approving expenditures, and administering contractor contracts.
  9. Prepares project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends, and recommending actions.
  10. Maintain a safe and clean working environment by enforcing procedures, rules, and regulations.
  11. Maintains product and company reputation by complying with international standards and state regulations.
  12. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
  13. Ensure that all employees are supplied with the relevant tools required to perform jobs
  14. Formulate systems for the smooth running of the Civil Engineering division to enable synergy and coherence
  15. Design, Reporting, and Project Management of projects in Civil Engineering infrastructural services to meet project objectives (Water, Sewer, Roads).
  16. Preparation of proposals, tender, and contract documents for the infrastructural services mentioned above
  17. The incumbent is expected to carry out site supervision of construction works for short durations on sites as follows:
  18. Ensuring compliance with design/specifications and standards
  19. Ensuring compliance with the program and all knowledge areas.
  20. Attending site meetings
  21. Preparing reports
  22. Do any ad-hoc office duties as assigned by the Chairman
Qualifications and Experience

The ideal candidate will have a BEng (Civil) or equivalent degree, and be professionally registered or registered with ECSA as PrEng. They will have good experience in bulk water and wastewater municipal infrastructure, storm water systems, earthworks, basic road and drainage systems. Some process design experience will be advantageous.

They will also have experience in managing a team of junior and senior employees, and a minimum of 20 years in engineering design, management, and construction. Extensive experience in the design and construction of bulk steel water pipelines, pump stations, reservoirs, abstraction works, and water treatment plants will be an added advantage.

The candidate will also have a minimum of 5 years after professional (ECSA) registration or any other recognized professional bodies, and proven track in management and leadership within a consulting firm.

They will have knowledge of MS Office, MS Project, and various civil and water design software, and a driver's licence is essential.

Quality Management Ensure that there is ISO compliance.

Regular inter-provincial and international site visits and meetings
