Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant General Manager. The Assistant General Manager will play a key role in supporting the General Manager in overseeing all operational aspects of our mining projects.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Strategic Planning

Assist the General Manager in developing and implementing strategic plans to achieve operational goals and targets.

Operational Management

Oversee the day-to-day management of mining operations, ensuring adherence to safety regulations, environmental standards, and legal requirements.

Leadership and Guidance

Provide leadership and guidance to supervisors and teams, fostering a positive work culture and prioritizing employee health and safety.

Collaboration and Optimization

Collaborate with various departments to optimize operational efficiency and productivity, including production, maintenance, logistics, and administration.

Performance Monitoring

Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve targets and objectives.

Mining Planning and Compliance

Coordinate and review mining plans, ensuring compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies.

Workforce Development

Develop and implement workforce training programs to enhance employee skills and knowledge, focusing on safety, productivity, and environmental sustainability.

Financial Management

Assist in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, providing input on operational costs and resource allocation.

Site Visits and Inspections

Conduct regular site visits and inspections to assess mine operations, identify areas for improvement, and ensure compliance with mining and safety standards.

Industry Knowledge and Innovation

Stay updated on industry trends, technological advancements, and legislative changes to drive innovation in mining practices and procedures.

Requirements
  1. Education

Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or relevant field.

Certification

Mine Managers Certificate of Competence.

Experience

Minimum of 10 years of experience in the mining industry, with at least 6 years in a managerial or leadership role.

Skills and Knowledge

Strong knowledge of mining operations and industry best practices, including safety regulations, environmental responsibilities, and mining techniques.

Leadership and Communication

Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage and motivate teams at all levels.

Strategic Planning and Budgeting

Proven ability to develop and execute strategic plans, while effectively managing budgets and resources.

Technical Skills

Proficient in the use of mining software and technology, with experience in mine planning and scheduling tools.

Problem-Solving and Innovation

Demonstrated ability to identify operational problems and develop innovative solutions.

Financial and Cost Management

Sound understanding of financial and cost management principles within the mining industry.

Regulatory Knowledge

Knowledge of relevant mining legislation and regulatory requirements in South Africa.
