Job Description:

We are seeking a highly skilled Business Development Manager to join our team at The Legends Agency in Johannesburg. As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for managing relationships with key stakeholders to ensure account retention, addressing day-to-day operational queries, and driving the growth of business in the designated channel.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Customer Strategy Development
    • Develop and set customer strategies for the designated area, aligned with company objectives.
    • Obtain sign-off across the business on strategy to ensure alignment.
    • Establish and implement key performance indicators (KPIs) in line with the agreed strategy.
  • Relationship Management
    • Set and review KPIs for customers, ensuring compliance from both the customer and the company.
    • Identify opportunities to build strategic partnerships by exploring areas for collaboration.
    • Manage internal business functions to ensure they meet the agreed KPIs.
    • Address and resolve customer queries and concerns promptly and effectively.
  • Business Development
    • Identify and pursue opportunities for expansion within your area of responsibility.
    • Align business capabilities with customers needs by identifying and proposing appropriate service solutions.
    • Negotiate commercial agreements with customers.
    • Maintain the profitability of your area of responsibility through rate reviews and increases as necessary.
  • Supply Chain Efficiencies
    • Deliver efficiencies and negotiate with customers on agreed improvements through cross-functional collaboration.
    • Optimize supply chains between the Supply Chain team and customers.
    • Actively manage the Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) process within your area, focusing on key cost drivers such as stock cover and SKU cover.
  • Self-Management
    • Take ownership and accountability for tasks, demonstrating effective self-management in planning, prioritizing, and personal development.
    • Ensure quality and productivity standards of work are consistently and accurately maintained.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • 3 years of account or general administration experience, preferably in an FMCG environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in supply chain management.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to set and implement strategic objectives.
  • Relationship Building: Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain strategic partnerships.
  • Problem-Solving: Excellent analytical skills to identify opportunities and solve problems effectively.
  • Negotiation: Proven experience in negotiating commercial agreements and rate reviews.
  • Supply Chain Knowledge: In-depth understanding of supply chain processes and S&OP management.
  • Self-Management: Demonstrated ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and maintain high productivity and quality standards.

Reporting and Performance:

  • Directly reports to the Customer Executive.
  • Regular monitoring and reporting on customer KPIs, business development progress, and supply chain efficiencies.

Geographic Scope:

  • Area of Responsibility: Durban and surrounding regions with national interactions as needed.

Key Relationships:

  • Internal: Collaboration with Supply Chain, Commercial, and Operations teams.
  • External: Regular interaction with key customer accounts and stakeholders.
