Job Title: Shipping Controller

Shipping Controller – Lucky Star Marketing

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement freight movement strategies to optimize logistics operations.
  • Coordinate customs clearance procedures for ocean freight consignments, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and manage landed costing in SAP, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Process and control Import, Export, and Cross Trade shipments, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Monitor and control shipping costs, storage, and other related expenses.
  • Prepare and send invoices to consignees, ensuring timely payment.
  • Engage with suppliers and consignees to ensure smooth communication and collaboration.
  • Manage and control documentation flow, liaising with agents, suppliers, and customers to ensure accurate and timely preparation of shipping documents.
  • Monitor and ensure that all empty containers are uplifted and turned in within the prescribed free time period.
  • Participate in process improvement projects to enhance logistics operations and efficiency.
Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes:
  • Be well-versed in South African import and export procedures, including Port Health and DAFF regulations.
  • Work in a pressurized environment, requiring attention to detail and ability to multitask.
  • Develop and maintain good administrative skills, including record-keeping and data management.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate with suppliers, consignees, and other stakeholders.
  • Be accountable and adaptable, with high values of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Be motivated and energetic, with a strong work ethic and ability to work independently.
  • Understand Customs compliance and regulations, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Work effectively as a team player, collaborating with colleagues to achieve common goals.
  • Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative to resolve problems and improve processes.
Qualifications and Experience:
  • 5-10 years of shipping experience, with a strong understanding of logistics operations and procedures.
  • Grade 12 Matric Certificate, with a tertiary qualification in Supply Chain Management (advantageous).
  • Incoterms Certificate (essential), with a shipping qualification beneficial.
  • Experience in customer relations and interactions, with a strong understanding of customer needs and expectations.
  • Advanced computer literacy, with proficiency in MS Office and SAP processing.
