We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced **Senior Technical Underwriter** to join our team in the field of Short-Term Insurance. As a Senior Technical Underwriter, you will play a crucial role in analyzing and evaluating insurance risks, developing underwriting policies, and ensuring profitability within our organization. This position requires extensive knowledge of underwriting principles, excellent analytical abilities, and the ability to make sound business decisions.

**Responsibilities**:
**1. Risk Assessment and Underwriting**:

- Analyze and evaluate risk factors, including loss history, claims data, and other relevant information.
- Develop and implement underwriting guidelines and policies in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Determine appropriate premium rates and coverage limits based on risk assessment outcomes.
- Collaborate with brokers, agents, and clients to obtain additional information and clarify underwriting requirements.

**2. Policy Analysis and Documentation**:

- Review and interpret insurance policies to ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines and contractual obligations.
- Prepare and issue insurance policy documents, endorsements, and certificates accurately and in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to ensure policy wordings and documentation adhere to regulatory standards and guidelines.

**3. Portfolio Management**:

- Conduct regular audits and reviews to ensure policy compliance, identify potential issues, and recommend appropriate actions.
- Collaborate with claims professionals to assess and analyze claims data, identify trends, and make underwriting adjustments accordingly.
- Provide guidance and support to junior underwriters, sharing knowledge and expertise to enhance overall team performance.

**Market and Industry Knowledge**:
Stay updated with industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes impacting the short-term insurance sector in South Africa.
Conduct competitor analysis to assess market positioning, product offerings, and pricing strategies.
Make recommendations to senior management regarding product development, pricing adjustments, and underwriting enhancements.

**Qualifications and Requirements**:

- Bachelor's degree in Insurance, Risk Management, Business, or a related field.
- Extensive experience (typically 5+ years) in technical underwriting within the short-term insurance industry.
- Solid knowledge of short-term insurance products, policies, and industry regulations in South Africa.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze complex insurance risks, make informed decisions, and develop underwriting strategies.
- Strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in using underwriting software systems and other relevant tools.
- Professional certifications such as FAIS accreditation or relevant underwriting qualifications would be advantageous.
