**What will you do?**
- Santam’s Operations’ division currently has an exciting opportunity available for a Commercial Underwriter who will be based within the Operational Underwriting and Risk Control team **(Bellville or Johannesburg).**
To be responsible for maintaining and administering the Santam Underwriting rules within the Commercial Underwriting Technical Team Operations.**What will make you successful in this role?**
- Manage appropriate underwriting rules for the commercial portfolio aligned with Santam’s risk appetite and rating structures.
- Provide technical underwriting expertise and advice to all internal clients.
- Understand, and champion the underwriting needs of intermediaries, staff and clients by Identify underwriting trends and addressing pro-actively.
- Handle referrals for complex underwriting and pricing exceptions
- Influence the behaviour of business partners in terms of underwriting applied on policies as well as underwriting actions which impact profit.
- Propose underwriting enhancement which may include wording changes or new coverages.
- Assist with transfer of skills to underwriting partners in the business.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Bachelors’ Degree/AIISA/FIISA or comparable short term insurance qualification
- FAIS compliance (min of 120 credits on NQF5 in commercial insurance)
- Completed or in the process of completing the Santam Academy courses in commercial insurance (Internal)
- Completed the Risk Identification and Assessment programme (Internal)

**KNOWLEDGE**
- Advance knowledge in MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook as well as Microsoft Dynamics 365
- In depth knowledge and understanding of commercial policy wordings
- Extensive short-term insurance knowledge
- Understanding of Commercial Underwriting quoting tools

**EXPERIENCE**
- Minimum of 10 years short-term insurance industry experience within a Commercial underwriting environment, with at least 5 years specifically focused on pricing and underwriting of risks.

**SKILLS**
- Ability to statistically analyse information and data
- Advanced numeracy skills
- Appreciation of insurance and underwriting principles
- Santam Underwriting and Policy Administration Systems, namely: WEBe, Mainframe, PolicyCenter (will be advantageous)
