- The Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) is a national and sector response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher
- Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff.
- The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills.
- The new generation of academics’ programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics.
- Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.
- To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post.- Show interest in becoming an academic
- Be 40 years or younger
- Show evidence of eligibility to undertake post-graduate study at doctoral level or post-doctoral programme.
- Be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme
The purpose of this post is to support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and develop service-learning activities
- Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceA Master’s Degree in Architecture or Architectural Technology with a 70% pass mark
Applicants must be South African citizens who are 40 years or younger
**Recommendations**
At least two (2) years' experience in teaching Architecture/Architectural Technology at Tertiary level
At least three (3) years' industry experience in in an Architectural Environment
Eligible to register with the South African Council for the Architectural Profession as Professional Architect
**Important Notice**
- Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Participation in all components of the nGap development programme during the first six (6) years of employment
- Lecture in the field of Architectural Technology, specifically in the areas of ‘Technology and Detailing’, ‘Design’ and ‘Computer Literacy’
- Deliver courses using Blended Learning methodologies at Undergraduate level.
- Operate on Learner Management Systems (on the official University platform) over a range of courses
- Develop innovative teaching methods by incorporating relevant technologies in teaching and learning activities
- Participate in academic development and administration
- Participate in curriculum and programme development
- Participate in Quality Assurance Activities
- Participate in research activities including undergraduate research projects
- Participate in Industry Advisory Committees & Partnerships
- Personal & Professional Development
- Contribution to departmental projects and productions
- Contribution to departmental WIL and service-learning projects and activities
- Develop and maintain linkages with industry and professional bodies
- Participate in Industry Advisory Committees & Partnerships
- Supervise and mentor both undergraduate and post graduate students
- Assist with marketing and recruitment activities
- Perform other academic functions as may be required by the Head of Department
