New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP)

The Staffing South Africa's Universities Framework (SSAUF) is a national and sector response towards addressing challenges in the South African Higher Education system in respect of size, composition and capacity of its academic staff.


  • The SSAUF intends to identify and nurture academic talent early in the academic development trajectory, and to support newly recruited academics to develop teaching expertise; develop research skills, including scientific publication skills. The new generation of academics' programme (nGAP), comprising one element of the SSAUF, involves the recruitment of highly capable scholars as new academics.
  • Appointment within the nGAP programme will be made such that staff equity targets are met, with preference to black and/or women South African citizens.
  • To be eligible for selection for an nGap post, applicants must meet the following criteria, in addition to meeting the minimum criteria specified for the post.
  • Show interest in becoming an academic
  • Be 40 years or younger
  • Show evidence of eligibility to undertake postgraduate study at doctoral level or postdoctoral programme.
  • Be willing to commit to placement at the appointing university for the full 6 years of the programme
The purpose of this post is to support the faculty and department in pursuit of its academic and research objectives which include teaching according to a set syllabus; undertake research and innovation; contribute to curriculum development and design; engage in work integrated learning, and develop service-learning activities

  • Job Knowledge, Skills and ExperienceA Master's Degree in Information Technology,Computer Science or related field with a 70% pass mark
Applicants must be South African citizens who are 40 years or younger

Recommendations
At least One (1) year' experience in teaching at Tertiary level

  • Supervise and mentor both undergraduate and post graduate students
  • Assist with marketing and recruitment activities
  • Perform other academic functions as may be required by the Head of Department
