Housekeeping Manager

Position Summary
The Housekeeping manager will be responsible for inspecting all areas to ensure that the prescribed standards of cleanliness are met. Duties include but are not limited to delegating cleaning tasks to employees, organizing replacements as required, investigating and addressing complaints regarding poor housekeeping services. The Housekeeping manager will utilize their team to ensure that the best possible service is given and that standards of hygiene and health and safety are improved and maintained.
Key Responsibilities
KPA 1: Cost and stock control
- Manage orders and issues of stock according to company procedures
- Assist with crockery and cutlery counts
- Receive and store cleaning material stock according to procedures
- Complete and submit monthly orders to food service manager
- Assist Food service manager with monthly stock take of cleaning materials
- Ensure chemicals are diluted according to the specified measurements
- MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) - ensure employees are aware of personal safety measures when handling chemicals
- Ensure chemical storage room is neat and tidy at all times
- Keep MSDS file up to date
KPA 2: Hygiene/ Health and Safety
- Assist with daily, weekly and monthly planning of all cleaning and laundry needs and services for the unit
- Supervise and cleaning and/ or laundry services and cleaning tasks
- Assist with rehearsing emergency evacuation plans in cooperation with all parties
- Monitor work methods and time management regarding all tasks for housekeeping and laundry services
- Monitor the use of cleaning and/ or laundry equipment by doing weekly checks
- Maintain and monitor good personal hygiene habits of all employees
- Monitor the wear of correct and clean uniform, name badge and closed shoes of all employees
- Complete daily, weekly and monthly checklists as per OP Manual
- Ensure quality cleaning standards of bathroom, toilets and showers and request GA’s to clean again if standards are not of the best quality
- Ensure cleaning trolleys are clean and properly stocked with no unauthorized items on the trolleys
- Assist with the serving of meals to residents and health care residents
- Ensure handling and storage of food according to food safety standards
- Ensure cleanliness of all areas
- Ensure cleanliness and maintenance of curtains/ curtain rails
- Manage infection crisis effectively
- Deep clean of dining room floor (execute a regular schedule cleaning plan)
- Floor buff and strip twice annually and regular polishing in certain areas
KPA 3: Equipment Management
- Assist with annual inventory and stock take of housekeeping and laundry equipment
- Report and keep records of all breakages of housekeeping and laundry equipment and machinery
- Report maintenance issues of cleaning and laundry equipment
- Manage a proactive machine maintenance programme in conjunction with management
- Ensure proper storage of equipment
- Ensure employees are using equipment correctly
- Assist with and set up and set down of functions and meals times
KPA 4: Client service
- Employee is friendly, empathetic, courteous and of assistance to residents, clients and guests
- Monitor client satisfaction and feedback, intervene to correct action or report to management
- Daily contact and communication with client and health care department - give feedback to management
- Daily walkabouts to residents rooms and report maintenance issues
- Ensure all indoor plants are well cared for and watered regularly
- Assist with resident food choice lists
KPA 5: Employee Management
- Partake in recruitment of housekeeping and Laundry GA’s
- Monitor and control employee attendance and registers
- Ensure leave planner is in place for the year and communicate to manager to align with operations
- Plan, attend and partake in monthly personnel meetings
- Monitor employees performance according to the company code and procedures and report to manager
- Injury on duty - completion of relevant forms under the guidance of the manager
- Conduct daily production meeting and give feedback to management on issues
- Update employees personal details changes with manager
- Assist manager with performance evaluation discussions of employees
- Keep record of employee relations incidents
- Follow disciplinary procedures as per the company code of conduct in line with management
- Ensure teamwork to achieve company goals
- Ensure employee personal details are updated on company records
KPA 6: Training and attendance
- Report team absences to management
- Arrange cover or stand in for absences
- Ensure employees are abiding by the company’s rules on time and attendance
- Identify training needs of employees
- Conduct on the job training with employees (new and existing) as needed
Assist with ad-hoc tasks as and when needed
