**Main purpose of the job**:

- To implement research projects, analyze the research data, and publish research findings

**Location**:

- **School of Public Health, The University of Witwatersrand - Parktown, Johannesburg**

**Key performance areas**:

- Assist with protocol development
- Review literature, develop methodologies and research tools for conducting research
- Assist in the submission of protocols for ethical review
- Recruit research participants and coordinate communication about research/activities with partner site actors
- Collect data as the study requires
- Assist in the preparation of progress reports for the Principal Investigator, senior researchers, and funder
- Present research findings to the PI and all relevant stakeholders
- Support the writing of reports for the unit

**Required minimum education and training**:

- **Honor’s Degree in Public Health, Economics, Social Science, Development Studies, or Social Development Studies**

**Required minimum work experience**:

- **Minimum of 3 years professional experience working in the Health Sector or conducting Health-related research**

**Desirable additional education, work experience, and personal abilities**:

- Sound understanding of South African public health, low-resource settings, and academic research methods
- Understanding health systems, public health, and health policy
- Competent in using data analysis software or aptitude/willingness to learn
- Able to work under pressure and adhere to deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to write well and to communicate well
- Self-motivated, and able to work well independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and report to more than one supervisor
