**Please note this position is available on a five-year fixed term contract.**

**The Role**:
The Advocacy Division is responsible for promoting compliance with the Competition Act through non-enforcement means. The Act identifies various advocacy-related functions, with the following worth mentioning: Implement measures to increase market transparency and Implement measures to develop public awareness of the provisions of the Act. The Division is responsible for advocacy for improved compliance with the Competition Act.

The Advocacy Division also drives policy analysis, contributing insights to government policies and regulations that aim to foster competitive outcomes. Furthermore, the division engages in sector-based research on competition issues to analyse trends, providing valuable information to shape the Commission's approach. The division is also responsible for conducting initial investigations into complaints received from the public and pursues strategic cases that cannot be resolved through enforcement alone, relying on advocacy initiatives for resolution.

**Skills & Experience**:

- A minimum of a relevant Master’s Degree in Economics or Equivalent Degree.
- A minimum of 10 years overall working experience. 5 years' experience working on regulatory issues at executive management level reporting to CEO is an added advantage.
- Must have proven experience in contributing to the formulation and development of economic policy.
- A proven experience in engaging stakeholders

**Key Accountabilities**:
**The main responsibilities of the incumbent will, inter alia, include**:

- Lead the development and implementation of an Advocacy Strategy for the Commission.
- Contribute towards development of procompetitive economic policy including well reached legislation to promote competitiveness and transformation of the South African economy.
- Proactively identify areas/sectors for effective advocacy interventions that promote competition, lower barriers to entry and open sectors to greater participation especially by Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and Historically Disadvantaged Persons (HDP) owned firms.
- Oversee the screening, assessment and advocacy for resolution of complaints submitted to the Commission.
- Contribute towards the development of strategic and operational plans for the Commission in line with relevant legislation.
- Formulate policy positions and represent the Commission within local and international fora.
- Define the division’s strategy, Business Plan and budget
- Participate within governance structures of the Commission including the Executive Committee (EXCO).
- Coach, support and motivate employees.
