ENERGY NRG 50/23 Professional Officer

**Requirements**:

- B.Eng / B.Sc / B-Tech degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Registered Pr Eng / Pr Tech Eng or eligible for registration.
- At least 2 years post qualification relevant protection experience.
- Valid Code B or EB driver’s licence.
- Experience in project management techniques.
- Written and verbal communication experience.
- Financial analysis and SAP.
- A high degree of computer literacy.

Key Performance Areas
- Procuring pre-designed protection and control systems from

approved suppliers and appointing competent specialist

contractors for large protection upgrading projects.
- Approving project plans, safety plans and time-lines/critical

path programs submitted by contractors for the construction,

installation and commissioning of large protection

upgrading projects.
- Scheduling regular site meetings with contractors to resolve

technical problems, budget limitations and project cash flows,

compliance with specifications and standards, project time line

projections and ensuring that safety regulations and construction

regulations are adhered to.
- Implementing substation and protection communication protocols,

and communication with wide-area networks and SCADA systems.
- Implementing accurate and pre-tested relay configurations,

algorithms and tripping equations on standard protection relays

and schemes.
- Drafting of design drawings, schematic diagrams, control panel

layout, bus-wiring schedules and fibre optic communication

diagrams with the Drawing and Records Centre, and ensuring

that all drawings are accurate and complete.
- Prioritizing critical protection systems for refurbishment by means

of risk analyses, condition of individual relays, test results and

the availability of spares.
- Estimating the cost of refurbishment as well as the feasibility and

complexity of the project.
- Assist in the compilation of a five-year capital refurbishment

budget that includes the cost of protection systems in all critical
