Medical Aid rate based on principal member only)- To be confirmed- Advert Closing Date- 22/9/2023- Job PurposeAcademic Planning supports the University’s academic planning activities. It supports the Academic Planning Committee and advises the University community on technical academic planning issues. Academic Planning liaises externally with agencies involved in the approval of new qualifications such as the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET), the Higher Education Quality Committee (HEQC) of the Council on Higher Education (CHE), and the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

The incumbent will:

- Facilitate and guide the design, development, accreditation, and registration of new academic programmes and qualifications
- Liaise and maintain professional relations with institutional units, academic departments, university committees and forums, as well as external agencies such as the Department of Higher Education & Training (DHET), the Council on Higher Education (CHE), the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA), professional bodies, industry partners and other relevant stakeholders regarding the development of new academic programmes and the re-curriculation of existing programmes on the Programme Qualifications Mix of the institution
- Oversee University PQM management and analysis and address queries regarding academic programmes offered by the institution
- Participate in national and regional collaborations regarding academic planning matters, e.g. SATN Programme & Qualifications committee and CHEC activities
- Coordinate the activities (agenda, minutes and reports) of the Qualifications Evaluation Committee and Senate Academic Planning Committee
- Initiate and coordinate research, and report on trends, in the higher education academic planning environment to enhance the competitive edge of the institution and to improve the quality of teaching and learning
- Direct the activities of the Institutional Research Unit and the execution of institutional surveys to enhance the competitive edge of the institution and to improve the quality of teaching and learning and student services provided.
- Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma qualification
- 6 years working experience in the public higher education academic planning and quality assurance environment with at least 3 years in a managerial or senior administrative position
- Recommendation: A Master’s qualification or proof of registration for a Master’s qualification will be an added advantage
- Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities- Coordinate and facilitate the review of curriculum of the existing CPUT qualifications to align these to the Higher Education Qualifications Sub-Framework aligned to national and institutional needs and requirements
- Compile and maintain the databases related to the Programme and Qualifications Mix of the institution and advise academic departments on academic planning matters related to the PQM of the institution
- Coordinate and facilitate the process of new programme development at CPUT and liaise with professional bodies and external agencies such as the Department Higher Education & Training, Council on Higher Education and South African Qualifications Authority in this regard
- Participate and/or coordinate activities related to the development of new HEQSF aligned programmes at CPUT
- Coordinate the agenda of the Qualifications Evaluation Committee and Senate Academic Planning committee and support the functions of this committee
- Serve on other institutional committees (e.g. Senate Teaching & Learning committee) and participate in the development of institutional policies, strategic planning and initiatives, operational rules and procedures and related matters
- Initiate and coordinate research, and report on trends, in the higher education academic planning environment.
- Participate in national and regional collaboration (e.g. SATN, CHEC and FET Colleges) on academic planning related matters
