Hoërskool Bellville (Bellville High School) is a public, Afrikaans medium, co-educational high school situated in Bellville in the Western Cape province of South Africa. The school is one of the top secondary schools in the province, with a proud record of a 100% pass rate in Matric for the past eight years.

**ABOUT THE ROLE**:
Bellville High School is seeking to appoint a dynamic individual who can adapt to the high academic standard and easily fit in with the rest of the support staff. The Teacher role is primarily responsible for working alongside the HOD, the Grade and Subject Head to motivate, inspire and empower their students with high-quality individual and group instruction so that they can reach their full potential.

The position is available from 1 January 2023.

**Minimum Requirements**:
**EDUCATION**:

- A Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science (or similar degree) OR a Bachelor of Education degree with strong experience in a Computer Science
- A Completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

**EXPERIENCE**:

- Teaching or tutoring experience at secondary school level
- A successful record of teaching computer science to Grade 12 will be an advantage.
- Experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, Visual Basic (console mode), Pascal/Delphi
- Experience teaching the CAPS or IEB curriculum will be an advantage
- Experience working with assessment data and operational data
- Demonstrated experience in working effectively with young people to promote their individual academic potential

**SKILLS**:

- Excellent communication skills in Afrikaans, both written and verbal
- Team player, and enjoy group problem solving
- Comfortable working remotely and independently
- Strong administrative and record keeping skills
- Adept in a technological environment and using technology for instruction
- Operationally savvy
- Strong organisational skills and flexibility

**KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES**:

- Strong technical knowledge of Computer Science
- Solid understanding of the design, coding and testing stages in the program development cycle

**Duties and Responsibilities**:
**The day-to-day responsibilities of this role include**:
***TEACHING**:

- Deliver exceptional, real world, enquiry-based Computer Science lessons that align with the CAPS Computer Science curriculum requirements
- Design rigorous lesson plans
- Deliver impactful and engaging enquiry-based lessons supported by technology to enhance instructional delivery
- Regular contact with students to encourage, motivate and empower them to achieve their best.
- Employ a variety of teaching and instructional methodologies, with the aid of edtech tools, to individuals and groups of students.
- Implementing responsive intervention based on students’ progress
- Work closely with the HOD, Grade and Subject Head to monitor at-risk students
- Report on the effectiveness of planned interventions (according to our remediation policy which uses RTI) and employ bespoke remediation strategies to enable student academic progress
- Review holistic performance of students on a regular basis
- Facilitate and participate in extracurricular activities such as social activities, clubs and student organisations

**TASK MANAGEMENT**:

- Update student records with socio-emotional, behavioural and academic insights gained through teacher-student interactions
- Meet regularly with the HOD, Grade and Subject Head in your team to identify student progress, trends and at risk-students
- Report on the progress of all students allocated to you, on a weekly basis
- Regularly attend learner progress and intervention tracking meetings
- Manage the posting of announcements to the online portals and respond to discussion forum posts made by students

***COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE**:

- Engage in lesson observations with HOD, Grade and Subject Head to maintain quality assurance of instruction in line with Bellville High School’s Teaching and Learning approach and to enable personal and peer improvement through feedback, coaching and mentorship
- Engage in the systemic integration of scientific educational knowledge, didactics (or pedagogical content knowledge), and practice to enable teachers to enhance their pedagogical thinking, evidence-based decision making, and engagement in the professional community of educators
