Production Supervisor

**PURPOSE OF THE ROLE**:
The Production Supervisor must guide and supervise the production teams and ensure the efficient use of machinery in the factory to produce a high quality, profitable, and food safe products. They also have to ensure buy-in, alignment and compliance with all the relevant policies and legislation, as well as the company's overall mission and vision.
**RESPONSIBILITES AND ACTIVITIES**:
**PRODUCTION CONTROL**
- Check that fruit off-loading area and factory is clean.
- Make sure that forklifts take the correct bins for processing.
- Inform Production & General Manager of fruit quality.
- Check operators and operations at water bath, sorting belt, decanter/citrus line, ultra-filtration and evaporator.
- Discern, analyse, manage and resolve problems.
- Contact relevant people during breakdowns and keep record of breakdown time.
- Ensure that the product is produced strictly according to specifications (food safety and quality).
- Ensure that production personnel clean and sanitize according to cleaning work instructions and cleaning schedules.
- Ensure that corrections and corrective actions take place within given time-frame.
- Monitor process parameters to ensure maximum yield and throughput per shift.
- Check sufficient stock levels for night-shift.
- Ensure and improve the effectiveness of all cleaning procedures
**SUPERVISION**
- The incumbent is responsible to supervise the production shift team of 15 staff, irrespective of the fruit processed.
- Communicate production meeting outcomes, daily instructions and shift problems.
- Motivate production personnel.
- Handle grievances and disciplinary procedures.
- Communicate and plan changes to shift schedule to adhere to production schedule.
**HUMAN RESOURCES**
- The incumbent is responsible for the shift team (day or night shift), including the decanter/citrus operator, ultrafiltration operator, evaporator operator, boiler operator, quality control, forklift driver.
- Give induction and training to shift production personnel.
- Train/Coach/Assist shift production personnel where necessary and assess effectiveness thereof. Ensure that they know the rules of the factory and what is expected of them. Assess training needs.
- Check subordinates’ time and attendance, especially overtime and leave.
- Responsible for informal assessment and recommendation of re-occurring fixed termers according to set performance, discipline & attendance standards
- Handle daily social welfare problems of production personnel and deal with personnel complaints.
- Check that production personnel clothing are clean and the correct protective clothing is worn.
- Check that the production team adheres to the Health & Safety regulations of the Company and inform Health and Safety Committee of possible hazards/problems.
- Ensure that the disciplinary code of the Company is adhered to.
**ADMINISTRATION**
- Administrative tasks include the completion of forms, including but not limited to:
- Production forms e.g. production sheets, process forms, cleaning forms
- Non-conformance forms
- Assessment forms
**GENERAL**:
- Do everything in your power to promote and develop the business of the employer and serve the employer faithfully and honestly and use reasonable care and skill in the performance of your duties. Obey all lawful and reasonable instructions and perform such work as you are directed to perform which falls within your vocational ability regardless of whether or not such work falls within the scope of the post to which you are appointed.
- Assist the Production Manager to decide and implement the best possible production schedule to maximize throughput and improve yields.
**EDUCATIONAL & WORK REQUIREMENTS**
- Relevant post matric qualification with 5 year’s work experience in a similar environment in a supervisory role OR minimum 10-15 years similar working experience as operator with at least 3 years in an acting supervisory position. Speak and write
- Afrikaans and English.
- Able to work 2 or 3 shift system, depending of season.
- Able to work long hours in typical factory conditions.
