**Job Description
- Purpose of this role**
- The Communication Specialist is responsible for actively identifying and managing issues and short-term projects that could affect the operational requirements and outputs of Anglo American Platinum through evaluation, research, and proactively managing those.
- Provides support to the communications manager in ensuring alignment and consistency with the development and implementation of communication strategies, campaigns, events, and the management of communications channels (both internal and external)
- Provide support to teams across the business with their communication and engagement responsibilities in support of specific strategic objectives and projects
- Responsible, in collaboration with the comms manager and other team members, in ensuring quality content across all channels, including the community newspaper, newsletters and engage in compliance of deadlines

- Identify and manage reputational risk on behalf of Corporate Affairs & Sustainable Impact by putting mitigating programmes in place
- Deliver on projects that will enhance or deliver on the business strategy
- Partner with Corporate Communications to support Platinum and Group initiatives
- Through interpreting strategy, drive existing and potential issues that could impact business directives and outcomes
- Manage a number of diverse special projects simultaneously and meet deadlines on each to ensure accuracy and timeliness and effectiveness of assigned projects, and attention to details
- Active engagement across the operation to identify communications opportunities.
- Liaise with key stakeholders across the Group as well as externally to establish contacts to obtain information, coordinate projects, clarify issues, make referrals, and process requests directed to interviews experts on potential issues, as well as gather information which will be shared through publications.
- Develop factually and technically accurate research data and materials.
- Work directly with highest levels of organisation management and with various functional heads to coordinate short term projects, which generate effective relations.
- Production (writing and editing) of content for both print and electronic communication.
- Regularly work on site and provide support in organising site visits and events, including developing communications collateral
- Support the communications manager in ensuring brand compliance across the operation, including the branding of Platinum-sponsored community projects
- Provide support with the development and implementation of external and internal communication campaigns, employee surveys and other initiatives.

- Contribute to building relationships with key stakeholders relevant to the discipline on a Business Unit level, ensuring engagements are consistent with Business Unit and Group sustainability initiatives and standards

**Compliance**
- Ensure compliance of the discipline with external (legislative, regulatory, permitting) requirements
- Ensure compliance of the discipline with Anglo American compliance requirements
- Develop required compliance governance in the context of the discipline on a Business Unit level
- Qualifications
- Degree / Diploma in Communications, Journalism
- Postgraduate qualification an advantage

**Experience**
- 3 years’ experience in leading and supporting the delivery of effective communications strategies.
- Experience in the development and implementation of integrated communication plans in a complex environment
- Track record in issuing briefs
- Proven experience of interfacing with and influencing colleagues and senior management
- Experience in working with different cultures and business environments.
- Experience in dealing successfully with internal and external stakeholders.
- Experience of newspaper/newsletter publishing and maintaining digital communication channels
