Senior Legal Advisor Global Grade 14

The role of the Senior Legal Advisor is to provide leadership in the delivery of reliable, accurate, timely and well-informed advice to the Company on commercial/corporate legal issues and reports to the Head: Legal, Risk and Compliance. Drafting, vetting and negotiations of contracts and provide legal advice and insight to the organisation to mitigate risk, gain commercial advantage and ensure compliance with legal framework of the country and internal policies.
**KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES**
- Provide legal advice and support to the BU’s including Rental, Construction, Finance, Procurement, Human Capital, Information Communications Technology (ICT), Aftersales, Facilities, Lesotho, Botswana and provide legal mentorship and guidance to GrA legal resources including BWE UK (now BME).
- Research and communicate the risks and legal issues involved in a broad range of commercial transactions and operational issues specific to the relevant BU.
- Draft/vet and review a variety of legal contracts including procurement of goods and services, consultancy, software/hardware support, lease, finance, and including drafting templates and/or customer agreements
- Ensure compliance with various legislation, policies and regulations.
- Provide general legal advice on procurement, supply chain and tender process.
- Direct negotiation with the service providers and consultants.
- Manage corporate litigation under areas of responsibility.
- Participate in various committees of the company (Credit Committee, Strategic Sourcing Committee).
- Monitor developments in the legal field and provide updates to BU’s
- Identify matters requiring specialist legal input and instruct and liaise with appropriate external counsel
- Liaise with external attorneys and prepare comprehensive brief to attorneys where necessary.
- Manage the legal budget for appointment of external legal service provider and ensure work is done cost effectively.
**PRIMARY OUTPUTS**
- Drafting, vetting and negotiations of various agreements entered into by the BU’s (areas of responsibility)
- Analysing specific legal issues relevant to the BU’s and assist in developing a responsive solution (and making informed decisions and/or recommendations that may have great influence on the manner in which legal decisions/issues impact the BU’s on operational and strategic level)
- Ensuring Review contracts to ensure appropriate terms and conditions for the company, including limitation of liability
- Quality and accuracy of agreement, opinions and solutions provided
- Provide pro-active legal support to the BU’s
- Provide expertise and advice on legal issues, internal policies and legal opinions to Bus
- Provide BU’s legal guidance on potential dispute with 3rd parties.
- Create standardises templates for use across the business and review the terms and conditions
- Keep abreast of any changes in the legislation that may impact the business
- Implement compliance programmes as per the Group requirement
