Assistant Winemaker

Newly acquired prestigious wine estate in Stellenbosch seeks to employ an Assistant Winemaker to support the Cellar Master.

The role will include, but is will not be limited to:

  • Coordination of cellar and harvest activities
  • Assist with the entire winemaking process
  • Preparation of wines for bottling
  • Management of quality control systems
  • Assist with marketing activities and wine tastings when necessary
  • Stock and inventory control
  • Management and supervision of cellar staff
  • Assist with the procurement of chemicals, additives and dry stock
  • Cellar administration and other tasks related to the position
  • Assist Vineyard manager with organic conversion and vineyard management duties

Requirements:

  • A formal qualification
    degree/diploma in Viticulture and Oenology:

  • At least 5 vinifications in a cellar (part of degree or thereafter)
-
At least 3 harvests in excess of 300 tons:

  • Familiar with various quality control systems IPW, BRC, HACCP and WIETA
  • Familiar with WineMS will be advantageous
  • Passion and commitment to producing quality wine with a creative drive to be innovative
  • Highly analytical
  • A willingness to learn new techniques
  • A willingness to learn Vineyard management outside of the cellar
