AFM is on the hunt for an experienced
Health and Safety Officer to join our company.

The role will be based at our sites in and around Cape Town and the incumbent will report to the Operations Manager.


Minimum Requirements:

  • A tertiary qualification in Safety Management, Risk Management, or related qualification within the safety field
  • 3 years' experience in the management and implementation of SHE systems and controls in a manufacturing environment
  • Interpersonal skills and a think out of the box attitude
  • Relevant OHS Act, SABS, NEMA, and ISO experience.
  • Must have the ability to participatively elevate safety culture.
  • Computer Literacy
  • Must be in possession of a
    valid driver's license.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice capacity planning vision, strategy, policies, and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
  • Implementing the companies OHS plans and strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with the OHS Act, HACCP and GMP principles and update company safety files.
  • Embed a culture of continuous improvement by reviewing existing procedures, designing, and implementing new / reviewed processes.
  • Ensure compliance of Building and PPE standards.
  • Facilitating and tracking the implementation of occupation hygiene risk assessments recommendations
  • Establish and coordinate OHS Committees.
  • Ensure the development and adherence to OHS policy and procedures.
  • Ensure that all items on the client's scorecard of the company are constantly monitored and complied with.
  • Develop and implement Disaster Management Plan.
  • Investigate IODs and ensure compliance as per COIDA legislation.
  • Raise management, supervisors, teamleaders and staff awareness of safety accountabilities and responsibilities through training and discussions.
  • Identify and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards.
  • Record and report hazards, accidents, injuries, and health issues within the workplace.
  • Facilitate the investigation of accidents and unsafe work conditions, study possible causes and
- recommended remedial action.

  • Ensuring the implementation of management plans in line with set objectives.
  • Managing internal and external contractors' safety management.
  • Conducting routine and nonroutine SHE inspections and raising Noncompliance for corrective actions.
  • Conducting risk assessment and supporting Process Hazard Analyses and providing RCA.
  • Investigate all NCR and close within 48 hours, ensure communication to relevant parties.
  • Meet with client Quality Assurance representative/s to discuss any CPR's and relevant suggestion to ensure that NCR do not re
- occur.

  • Compile and oversee and continuously update the OHS.
  • Plan and Coordinate emergency procedures such as evacuation drills and first aid crews.
  • Form part of internal and external audits. Ensuring that operations are ready for an audit at any time.
  • Attend and make recommendations at monthly OHS meetings.
  • Develop and safeguard quality standards within the employee's allotted areas of responsibility.
  • Continual review and amendment of all QMS documentation that is ensuring that all inhouse systems and procedures are updated, revised, and modified to meet the needs of external certification bodies.
  • Risk assessments in all aspects of the business.
