Our new colleague will be essential in supporting the data analytics/learning/research agenda across our portfolio of projects which means developing case studies of pioneering local fund managers, designing a ground breaking longitudinal study on "missing middle finance" performance and rolling out the annual CFF survey amongst other things


Despite working remotely from across the globe we like to maintain a collegial and collaborative working relationship across the organisation with regular face to face events in-market.


Organisational overview


The Collaborative for Frontier Finance ("CFF") is a multi-stakeholder initiative that aims to increase access to capital for small and growing business ("SGBs")1 in emerging markets - a deficit estimated at $930 billion.

We are a field building organisation specifically interested in "missing middle" finance in emerging markets.

CFF works with diverse stakeholders - including local capital providers (LCPs)2, institutional investors, development agencies, philanthropic funders, and field builder organizations - to accelerate financing solutions that target SGBs.

With a bias to action, CFF works by building and empowering networks of these stakeholders, performing "actionable research" and undertaking market-based initiatives to address systemic barriers, with a view to fostering a peer
- to-peer learning environment and providing a platform for collective action.

CFF operates across three principal platforms/modalities:
Collective Action through Early-Stage Capital Provider (ESCP) Network.

We connect LCPs facing similar pain-points to a peer network of actors operating with shared principles, values, and ambitions to learn from and support one another.

CFF manages and facilitates webinars, training sessions, working groups and two in person Convenings per year.

The objectives of generating and disseminating these learnings are to:

  • Drive investment readiness to strengthen the capacity and capabilities of LCPs
  • Demystify Frontier Finance to inform the LP investor market of the investment opportunity of "missing middle" asset class
  • Inform on Systemlevel constraints to identify current gaps and bottlenecks where they happen, what are the causes, what is needed to
  • Drive Innovation
- to Inform the design and drive the implementation of innovative approaches related to linkages to capital

  • Programmatic Initiatives/Linkages to Capital
We identify and spearhead concrete initiatives to address specific gaps in the "missing middle" finance.

This includes the launch of £10m fund of funds, Nyala Venture, in partnership with FSDAfrica and FMO LAUNCH Capital Provider Programme to provide catalytic capital and technical assistance to emerging LCPs.

We have partnered with IFC SME Ventures to launch the first on-line portal with resources/templates/guidelines/trainings to accelerate fund manager capabilities.


Role:
Analyst (full time role)

  • Frontier Capital Learning Lab (70%time allocation)
  • Data analysis and development of publications: Support research and writing of reports, article, website content, training materials in relation to current and future portfolio of Assist or take the lead in data collection, analysis, write up of novel insights to inform market growth. Initial focus area includes profiling of Nyala Ventures investment process and investee LCP fund/investment models. Work with partner organizations to design and review joint research projects.
  • Annual and periodic Take lead on CFF's hallmark surveys on access to capital for small businesses in Africa and Middle East. Continuously refine our surveys to extract the most relevant and informing data points. Develop summary report from the data inputs of surveys.
  • Fund Manager Portal: Support the implementation of improvements to the fund manager This will include content management/curation, assisting/soliciting content development, writing partnership proposals and managing thirdparty suppliers.
  • Project coordination: Support management of research initiatives with regards to planning, scheduling, stakeholder management and For example, develop and execute partner engagement strategy for initiation of longitudinal performance tracking of LCPs alongside transitional fund of funds, DFIs and foundations.
