The Faculty of Economic and Management Sciences offers a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes that educates the students across multiple disciplines, including Accounting, Economics, Finance, Management, Industrial Psychology (Human Resources Management), Information Systems, Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS), Institute for Social Development (ISD), Management, Political Studies, School of Government (including Public Administration) and the Academic Literacies Programme.


  • Facilitate learning and teaching at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate levels in Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Economics, in both facetoface contact mode and online/blended learning environment;
  • Conduct research and publish accredited scholarly output;
  • Undertake postgraduate supervision;
  • Provide academic leadership;
  • Undertake curriculum development, review and renewal;
  • Participate in community engagement and outreach;
  • Conduct academic administration.

Minimum Requirements

  • PhD or equivalent in the field of Economics;
  • Demonstrated relevant experience in facilitating undergraduate learning, preferably in at least two of the following three core subdisciplines: Microeconomics, Macroeconomics and Quantitative Economics;
  • A record of quality peerreviewed publications in the field of Economics;
  • A record of successful postgraduate supervision at Honours and Masters levels;
  • Demonstrated competence in community engagement.

  • Experience in facilitating postgraduate learning;
  • Evidence in community engagement;
  • Competence in data analysis specialised software packages (e.g. E-Views, Stata);
  • Familiarity with the South African economy and economic debates.
