KEY JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Compliance Accountant – Compliance Department reporting to Group Finance Manager – Compliance DepartmentQualifications, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting / Finance or ACCA or CIMA.
  • Ideally have ERP System experience e.g., SAP, Sage X3 etc.
  • Ideally have Intermediate or advanced excel skills.

JOB BRIEF Responsible for ensuring the business meets all its tax obligations in accordance with regulatory requirements and ensures proper tax compliance for all forms of tax.

The main focus is on the remittance of all tax payments, returns, and the research of tax inquires.

This is an integral role that supports senior finance management in the areas of Tax and Statutory Compliance, Internal Control, and Financial Reporting.


Management:

In this position, the accountant prepares, organizes, and compiles data for the preparation of monthly and annual tax returns.

The accountant leads the internal control improvement initiative of processes and handles the documentation and review of process flows.

Financial/Tax Analysis & Reporting:
The accountant assists with the preparation of income tax returns, inclusive of other supporting schedules and aids in the preparation of all other required tax and statutory returnsDocumentation & Record

Management:
The accountant is responsible for proper documentation and tax record management.

In this capacity, he takes ownership of the business's tax compliance and corporate tax returns related records and ensures all tax returns, proof of payments, correspondence and all other tax or legal documents are filed and are easily retrievable both at head office and in-country.


Collaboration:
The accountant works with tax authorities to ensure full tax compliance; he will be required to work closely with the finance department leadership in identifying deficiency in tax-related internal controls

Knowledge:

The accountant maintains knowledge of, and complies with country tax compliance regulations, company act requirements and annual fiscal monetary and budgetary policy statements to keep the group up to date with current information, procedures and developments.

He conducts independent research and recommends improvement in the current methodology used in the collection and reporting of data for the required tax activities.


Other Duties:

The accountant will also perform similar duties as he deems fit for the proper execution of his duties and duties as delegated by the Chief Financial Officer, or the Employer.

The roles and responsibilities of this position are as detailed below;1.AUDITSa.
Assist in handling audit queries from revenue authorities and compiling audit packs and other financial schedules as required b.

Ensure audit readiness for all subsidiaries in the group through maintaining comprehensive and complete audit files in line with country legislation.c.

Administer and provide replies to all revenue authority notices and coordinate with departments to perform tax audits and perform research to resolve issues efficiently.2.TAX RETURNS a.

Prepare and submit all tax returns, schedules and statutory payments accurately and in line with prescribed legislation and deadlines.b.
Assist in the preparation of all income tax returns and prepare all the required paperwork for supporting audit files.c.
Evaluate all tax returns and maintain compliance to country regulations.d.
Prepare and maintain a tax calendar and track all due dates of tax filing.3.STATUTORY COMPLIANCE AND ADVISORY a.

Perform research on various tax issues and act in an advisory capacity to the group to ensure full compliance with any legislative changes.b.

Determine tax savings and recommend strategies to improve profits.c.

Prepare and maintain a statutory tracker with comprehensive company details and ensure that this information and the supporting documents are easily accessible to all internal clients.d.

Ensure that all annual secretarial returns, tax clearance certificates, BEE-E, indigenisation certificates, business licences and any other legislated documents required by the company registrar or other legislative bodies are prepared and renewed on time.4.GENERAL ADMINISTRATION a.

Assist the Line Manager and Chief Financial Officer with adhoc projects from time to time.b.
Preparation of files and reports for Management meetings as advised by the Line Managerc.
Legal matters - preparing and maintaining files of legal mattersd.
Ensure all internal control procedures are implemented and standardized group templates are utilised.e.
