ENERGY Senior Professional Officer

Requirements:

  • BSc (Eng) / BEng / BTech in Electrical Engineering
  • Five (5) years' experience in the medium/high voltage
electrical power systems field, of which a minimum of

three (3) years should be in electricity utility operations

of a power system

  • A strong understanding of distribution system operations
and optimisation

  • High level of computer literacy and operational and
information technology commonly used in power

system operations

(SCADA / EMS / GMS / DMS / OMS etc.).

Key Performance Areas

  • Keep abreast with technological and statutory
developments related to the electricity, generation,

transmission, distribution and electricity trading sectors

  • Analyse and align functional requirements with
operating capacity and capability within industry

standards

  • Analyse trends, operating requirements and forward
planning and forecasting to establish/ determine

operating funding requirements for the period

  • Perform annual budgetary and revised budgetary plans
  • Ensure compliance with the technical aspects of the
terms and conditions of the contracts and compliance +

with electricity regulations and procedures

  • Monitor generator performance against agreed terms
and conditions

  • Coordinate blackstart, loadshedding and blackout
plans in the control room

  • Implement contingency plans, identify abnormal and
emergency situations, co-ordinate recovery procedures,

simulate scenarios of potential incidents, and ensure

scenarios are documented and updated and render

operational support during contingency events

  • Plan and schedule optimally the generation including
DER providing input to the GMS / DERMS and the
