Purpose of Role:

To enable the creation of business value at SPARK Schools using the appropriate and aligned systems and technological

solutions. The ability to think at a strategic level to assist all business units in the selection, implementation and operation

of systems which will eliminate operational and tactical issues before they arise.

Requirements:

Responsibilities:

  • Guide the technological direction of SPARK Schools by constructing business plans, overseeing network security
and directing online operations

  • Assist the Technology Executive to plan, coordinate and lead strategic technological projects
  • Interrogate the current technology architecture and system landscape with an intent of identifying inefficiencies,
and implement corrective actions

  • Map out the endtoend SPARK Schools system ecosystem
  • Craft the system blueprint that outlines the system architecture and the flow of information from one system to
another

  • Drive integrated planning, design, optimization, operation and control of technological products, processes and
services

  • Identify source and target systems and the integration type across our system ecosystem
  • Ensure the Information Technology structure is optimally configured to deliver excellent service, and that the IT
team is adequately skilled and supported to do such

  • Design and manage appropriate information security controls in line with SPARK Schools objectives, compliance
requirements, and existing environmental risk

  • Ensure systems and data are adequately protected and can be recovered in an incident to agreed levels (data
protection, disaster recovery and business continuity)

  • Ensure data is protected, secured across our systems, and not accessible to unauthorized users in adherence to
POPI Act, GDPR and other data legations

  • Identify gaps with the change deployment process and recommend remedial actions that will lead to optimal
operation to support business according to agreed principles (i.e. performance, availability, service level and

capacity metrics).

  • Provisioning of business systems with the correct technical support. i.e. security, infrastructure performance
measurement

  • Maintain customer satisfaction in line with strong customer ethic, by ensuring agreed levels of support are
achieved and exceptions are properly managed

  • Gatekeeper for implementation of changes into production environments
  • Ensure systems' stability by implementing change control and release management per ITIL
  • Ensure effective IT Governance is adhered to, in accordance to COBIT
  • Provide training to members of staff at all levels to inform them of changes to systems, processes and usage
protocols

  • Measure quantitatively and qualitatively the usefulness of each system deployed
  • Provide technical assistance to the Technology team with the programming techniques and debugging, platforms
and frameworks to achieve team's goals

  • Lead all systems and technology initiatives

Technical Experience (Non-negotiable):

  • Extensive knowledge of software development process and its technologies
  • Strong knowledge of computer programming languages, such as Python, Javascript, Google Script
  • Experience in both SQL, NoSQL and inmemory database design, creation and maintenance
  • Strong knowledge of HTML technologies and web frameworks
  • Proven successful history of delivering complex development projects
  • Solid understanding of user interface design and UX design principles, ideally having worked with frontend
