Role purpose:


This position will be responsible for the development and execution of MPA PR Strategy for the business and ensuring effective delivery of Executive, Media and Digital Communication and Brand Reputation strategies.

The role will also be responsible for developing and executing strategies on issue management, effective storytelling, supporting and managing a consistent communication strategy across all M-PESA Markets

Your responsibilities will include:

Develop a PR strategy and lead day to day communication against the strategy for M-PESA Africa and Safaricom M-PESA.
Develop and implement an external communication strategy for M-PESA Africa.

Advise on best practice, identifying key priorities, balancing stakeholder expectations and needs with resources available to deliver effective strategic PR strategy communications.

Refine core messaging to ensure organizational consistency in all aspects of communication including development, organizing and educating staff members, including developing an executive messaging guidebook.

Work with other M-PESA markets to highlight and amplify their achievements across the continent.
Ensure timely execution of all communication initiatives.
Work with other teams to produce communication that sets the right tone for the company.

Work towards building a positive company image with all internal audiences and externally via channels such as LinkedIn, Website and Social Media.

Identify and implement communications opportunities for M-PESA Africa to enhance its reputation. Identify and implement External communications opportunities to increase awareness about the Business.
Measure and monitor the Communications impact on the Company
Manage the briefing, development and implementation of communications executions in line with the Business's norms

Manage the performance of staff in the section by defining performance indicators, assign tasks, and define goals and objectives for the staff develop the skill base of the staff assigned, motivate, discipline and recommend reward of staff.

Manage relationships with PR and creative agencies, editors and contractors
Work with the entire Safaricom PR team to support and enhance communication strategies for Safaricom M-PESA, including crisis communication, digital strategies and TV, radio and newspaper communication strategies
Work together with the M-PESA Africa Brand team on internal and external communication strategies including brand awareness and amplification
Work with other M-PESA markets to monitor and report coverage
M-PESA Africa liaison for respective PR and media agencies
Develop Online Brand Reputation strategy and lead day to day communication against the strategy.
Work with colleagues in relevant departments to ensure effective crisis, digital, online brand reputation management.


Proactively develop and provide strategic thought leadership for both internal and external audiences in the areas of; Digital asset, Social media, Crisis communications, and Internal & external corporate publications.

Develop and implement a strategic online reputation management plan for the brand to give the company a respected, consistent and well projected voice in the online community.

Optimise and standardize processes to drive maximum value from online engagement and implement new technology enchantments.
Analyze communication effectiveness and revise the appropriately planned communication strategies
Pro-actively provide communication program results to the clients and make use of metrics to inform further communication projects

Bachelor's degree in Marketing or related field, Political Science, Public Administration, Law and other social sciences; Master's Degree preferred
5-8 years' experience in relevant disciplines of which 3 years must have been in senior management experience, preferably in a communications company
Success in Crisis Communication and Online Brand Reputation management

Applies commercial acumen to maintain a healthy profit margin
