The Ideal Candidate:
  • Holder of a B.Com or Accounting Science degree.
  • Currently pursuing CTA (Honours) qualifications.
  • Successful completion of SAICA Articles.
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of supervisory and management experience in a small to medium-sized accounting firm.
  • Experience in preparing annual financial statements.
The Role:
Reporting to the Accounting Manager:
  • Ensure timely delivery of client services.
  • Act as a primary contact point for clients alongside the Partner, keeping them updated on service progress.
  • Create job budgets, fee estimates, and proposals for clients.
  • Ensure compliance with the firm's risk management and quality control procedures.
  • Maintain a checklist for all clients in the portfolio outlining services to be provided to each.
  • Prepare client engagement letters.
  • Monitor long outstanding debtor accounts.
  • Review compilation of annual financial statements, including IFRS and IFRS for SME, and other financial reporting frameworks.
  • Conduct various reconciliations and adjustment entries during annual financial statement compilation.
  • Taxation:
    • Review tax returns, handle SARS disputes, and assist with tax queries and audits.
    • Manage budget planning for audit and independent review assignments.
    • Ensure completion of audit and independent review planning documentation.
    • Review audit and independent review files to ensure readiness for sign-off.
  • Facilitate annual and consultancy meetings with clients.
  • Monitor staff productivity to ensure targets are met.
  • Prepare job billing and variance analysis for Partner approval.
  • Oversee work in progress, align write-offs with company policy, and provide explanations with future action plans.
  • Identify training needs, coordinate training sessions, and conduct training as necessary.
  • Provide technical training to Senior and Junior Accountants and keep them informed about accounting treatments, taxation, and relevant legislation.
  • Conduct performance reviews and ensure documentation is in line with company policy.
  • Develop annual work plans and adjust as needed.
  • Assign work to staff while considering knowledge and skills required.
  • Handle general HR responsibilities including leave scheduling approval by Partners.
  • Meet with Partners weekly to discuss job progress and any client or staff issues.
  • Meet required productivity targets - Management: 40%, Chargeable: 60%.
Key Skills & Competencies:
  • Proficiency in Caseware, Excel, and Word.
  • Knowledge of SARS e-Filing.
  • Experience with software like Pastel, Sage Online, Xero, Quickbooks, and GreatSoft is advantageous.
  • Ability to maintain output quality under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Manage multiple tasks efficiently, work within tight deadlines, and stay composed and focused.
  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, IFRS for SME, and taxation.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory abilities.
  • Effective organizational, time management, and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Results-driven with great attention to detail.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, capable of working independently and setting priorities.
  • Exhibit personal integrity and maintain confidentiality.
  • Establish and maintain accurate record-keeping systems.
  • Proficient in information gathering, problem-solving, and analysis.
