The Ideal Candidate:

  • Previous 3 to 4 years of experience in bookkeeping within an Accounting Firm.
About the Role:
Reporting directly to the Partner:
  • Engage in client management, visit client premises, and troubleshoot any issues.
  • Responsible for preparing and reviewing monthly management reports for clients.
  • Supervise and review the work of Junior Bookkeepers, ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation of client accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Handle month-end and year-end journal entries and reconciliations.
  • Accurately update accounting records from source documents.
  • Thoroughly review trial balances and general ledgers to identify any misallocations or inconsistent accounting treatments.
  • Establish and set up new general ledger files with chart of accounts.
  • Monthly reconciliation of payroll.
  • Preparation of EMP201's, EMP501's, and Workmen's Compensation calculations.
  • Reviewing/preparing monthly VAT201's.
  • Prepare accounting records from source documents to finalized reconciled trial balance.
  • Facilitate monthly client meetings with Partners if necessary.
  • Stay updated on relevant legislation, best practices, and interpretation notes to share with Bookkeepers/Partners.
  • Identify training needs, assist in training material preparation, and facilitate training sessions.
  • Aid in billing monthly jobs in collaboration with Supervisor/Partner.
  • Provide on-the-job training to Junior & Intermediate Accounts staff, focusing on professional and technical skills.
  • Ensure all client deliverables are completed as per requirements.
Key Competencies and Skills:
  • Achievement of monthly and annual client fee budgets.
  • Proficiency in Advanced Excel/Word / Xero/Sage online / Pastel / Quickbooks / GreatSoft Accounting.
  • Familiarity with SARS e-Filing.
  • Solid understanding of general accounting bookkeeping theories and practices.
  • Capability to handle multiple tasks and meet short deadlines efficiently.
  • Demonstrate exemplary personal integrity and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Self-motivated and proactive individual.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, assess priorities, and take initiative.
  • A team player with the capability to maintain high-quality output even under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Effective time management, prioritizing, and forward planning abilities.
  • Demonstrate leadership and supervisory skills.
