Medical Aid rate based on principal member only)- To be confirmed- Advert Closing Date- 3/3/2023- Job Purpose- Job Knowledge, Skills and Experience- A doctoral degree in Applied Mathematics or a doctoral degree in Mathematics with a demonstrable focus on Applied Mathematics

  • At least 4 years' relevant working experience, which must include two years teaching experience in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics at the Higher Education level
  • Demonstrable skills and experience in Data Science (data cleaning and data analysis) in a widely used software or language such as Python, R, or SAS
  • Research and postgraduate supervision commensurate with Institutional requirements
  • Experience in curriculum development
  • Key Performance Areas / Principal Accountabilities
  • Teach Mathematics and related modules up to the Postgrad Diploma level in Mathematical Sciences
  • Supervise student projects up to the Postgraduate Diploma level in Mathematical Sciences
  • Monitor and assess Work Integrated Learning
  • Perform appropriate academic and administrative duties in the Department
  • Participate in curriculum development, particularly at postDiploma level and higher
  • Participate in research projects and produce DHETaccredited publications
  • Participate in the Quality Assurance activities of the Department
  • Assist with marketing and student recruitment activities
  • Perform other functions as may be assigned by the Head of Department


 Competencies
  • Proficiency in at least one Data Science programming language such as Python, R, or SAS
  • Proficiency with at least one Mathematics software package such as MATLAB
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Organisational and planning skills
  • Adaptability and willingness to innovate
  • Skills in a codebased document preparation system (e.g., LaTeX)
  • Strong student focus
  • Administrative skills
  • Research and academic writing skills
  • Proficiency in English
