Doctors Without Borders (MSF) is an independent international medical humanitarian organisation that delivers aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, natural or man-made disasters, or to people that are excluded from access to health care.

The organisation has health projects in more than 70 countries. MSF South Africa is located in Johannesburg with an office in Cape Town.

MSF SA is governed by the MSF Southern Africa Association, which is made up of more than 300 members from seven countries in the region.

MSF consist out of 5 Operation Centres (OCs), 3 European Supply Centres (ESCs) and 22 Partner Sections (PS).

Context


This Project Management Internship (100% FTE) is funded by Transformative Innovative Capacity (TIC) to transform how LGBTQI+ patients are welcomed and treated in MSF health projects through increased organizational literacy and competencies, thus reducing barriers to appropriate and dignified healthcare for this population.


The Project Management Intern will work with a small team working remotely in Europe and report to the Lead Project Coordinator (PC) and work on many aspects of the project.

Duties will include updating our website and SharePoint page with new developments, supporting adaptation of content on LGBTQI+ inclusive care for MSF use, and assisting in the creation of sensitization trainings and activities for field pilots.

The Project Management Intern will also be responsible for other administrative and reporting tasks/follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in publishing communications packages to MSF movement re TIC and objectives.
  • Update the interactive map of local LGBTQI+ civil society organizations and criminalization laws in MSF countries.
  • Monitor and update website and SharePoint page with new content.
  • Maintain the database of resources, by intended audience and objective.
  • Monitor global developments in LGBTQI+ rights.
  • Support the creation of training content on LGBTQI+ inclusive care.
  • Assist in developing resources for the field online webinar, training manual/curriculum, telemedicine access, videos/PowerPoint slides, and web portal to organize and quickly access resources.
  • Assist in developing ongoing status reports on TIC project.

Competencies
-
Research, writing, and analysis; Professional-level English-language writing and editing skills, capable of distilling complex materials into compelling and accessible language with clear narratives.

Technical; Proficiency in MS Office products, Adobe Acrobat, web interfaces, content creation tools such as Canva and InDesign, and social media.

Communications; Accurately and professionally represent and communicate predetermined positions and priorities of the TIC team in exchanges, meetings, and presentations.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, effective networking abilities and serviceoriented.
  • Experience with the LGBTQI+ community and health challenges a plus.

Education, Certifications, and Languages

  • Working on a
    Degree in social/educational sciences

  • Oral & written fluency in English.
  • Oral & written fluency in other MSF languages (French, Spanish, A.rabic) is a distinctive asset.
