The Business Development Leader is responsible for developing a sustainable go to market strategy in targeted export countries within Africa to meet sales objectives for the business portfolio by securing new revenue within the existing portfolio of customers as well as seeking out new customers to gain access to the targeted end user segments.


Main Duties and Day to Day Tasks:

  • Extensive travelling into Africa is a key requirement of this position.
  • Contact new and existing customers within the relevant segments to discuss their needs, and to explain how these needs could be met by offering a consultative sales approach on the customer's specific products and services required.
  • Develop proposals, presentations and close deals, grow and maintain critical relationships with C-Level executives and filter through entire customer corporations
  • Evaluate targets and grow each segment in accordance with the KPI together with the extensive network and providing solutions to the customers' needs by full product and solutions offering.
  • Develop and implement various sales strategies with shortterm, mediumterm, and longterm goals in alignment with the specific segment growth of the company targets
  • Identify prospective customers by using business directories, following leads from existing clients and new leads, participating in organizations, trade shows and extensive research into marketing material
  • Collaborate with colleagues to exchange information, such as selling strategies or marketing information.
  • Must ensure sales & GP targets are achieved as specified by the relevant Managing Directors.

Specific Job Skills and Qualifications Required:

  • Grade 12 / NQF level 4 or the equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years Sales or marketing skills, specifically gained in African countries in similar role.
  • African country trade regulations / legislation / duties etc
  • ND in Business commerce would be an advantage.
  • Strong technical background and electrical product knowledge.
  • Strong knowledge of the specified industry segments (i.e mining, sugar, agriculture, manufacturing, FMCG)
  • Welldeveloped basic arithmetic and analytical skills to draw up quotations, monitor sales targets etc.
  • Computer skills to effectively utilize Microsoft Suite of software.
  • Must have at least 35 years exp. people management skills or in similar role
  • Must have at least 10 years industry related experience
  • Wellgroomed neat and well presented.
  • Must have exceptional communication, presentation, and reporting skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with the sales network outside RSA.
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Fastpaced extrovert personality with the ability to work within a team.
