Job Summary


As a key member of the Absa Financial Services (AFS) Group Risk Management team, reporting directly to the AFS Group Chief Risk Officer, and being part of the Group's Risk Leadership, be accountable for the 2nd line oversight of the implementation, embedment and assurance of the AFS Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) across the AFS Group with the purpose of ensuring that the Second Line of Defence effectively and optimally manages all risk.

Accountability:
Portfolio Risk Management

  • Develop, where required, AFS Group risk standards in line with the AFS Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) and Risk Policies.
  • Provide guidance, challenge and advice to the AFS Group CRO to support the recommendation of the AFS Group operational risk strategy, approach and risk appetite to the Absa Group Limited (AGL) CRO.
  • As an independent Second Line of Defence (2LOD) provide constructive challenge, feedback or advice to the AFS Group on its risk
  • Develop and execute, in collaboration with Internal Audit and Compliance, an effective and efficient methodology/working model for the assurance and conformance assessment of operational risk practices against the framework, policies and standards.
  • As an Operational and Insurance Risk Subject Matter Expert:
  • In participation with Group Operational Risk provide support and use of a practical operational risk toolset within the AFS Group
  • In participation with Group Operational Risk deliver advisory and training services across the AFS Group
  • Research operational and insurance risk trends and forthcoming developments and ensure it is socialized and understood by the AFS Group
  • Assist leadership to drive a transformational strategy to continuously improve the efficiency of ERM risk processes in line with market, business or regulatory developments

Accountability:
Stakeholder Communication, Liaison and Reporting

  • Establish and maintain a coherent operating rhythm across the value chain (i.e. intrarisk, across AFS Group and 3rd parties) in support of the AFS Group strategic objectives
  • Enable delivery of the update to the Risk Leadership with operational performance metrics, project implementation statuses and key matters arising; escalating material issues identified indicating the level of severity and associated risks
  • Where applicable, engage vendors to address current and future business needs in addition to delivery/performance metrics
  • Participate in key risk management committees, in conjunction with the AFS Group Chief Risk Officer and Principal Risk Officers, across AGL representing the AFS Group portfolio and provide challenge, thought leadership and direction on other AGL portfolios.
  • Act as industry and regulatory liaison in support of ERM, risk governance and combined assurance matters
  • Assist with the planning, allocation and timeous delivery of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements.
  • Act as the point of entry for Risk Management reporting for AFS Group stakeholders ensuring that all AGL reporting cycles are appropriately coordinated and managed.
  • Drive required risk management forums in accordance with corporate governance requirements, including the collation, compilation, interpretation, management and interpretation of stakeholder to AGL reporting.
  • Assist with the definition of valueadding and informative Risk Management reporting templates and dashboards to be utilised within the various governance reporting structures.
  • Identify gaps in all reporting processes, provide guidance and recommendations to enhance these reporting processes across all key reporting requirements.
  • Provide oversight and identify reporting requirements across the Risk Management landscape for AFS Group.
  • Represent AFS Group at industry body or Regulator workshops and meetings (as advised)
  • Create awareness of reporting developments to AFS Risk Management; maintain and update a roadmap / timeline of key developments across the industry with respect to changes to reporting requirements
  • Create and drive combined assurance reporting dashboards that derive meaningful data and reporting to allow for better informed decision making
  • Provision of support and guidance to AFS Business Unit Heads of Risk Management and other Stakeholders on Risk Management (methodology, risk profile, RTS etc.), risk governance and combined assurance
  • Effective liaison between AFS Group Risk Management and AGL Risk Management through providing AFS Group feedback on AGL initiatives and also escalating AFS Group Risk Management requirements to AGL
