Job Summary


As a member of the Risk Management function within the Absa Financial Services (AFS), the incumbent has full accountability for the effective management of the Risk Operations, Framework and Policy Embedment and Reporting obligations as set out in the Enterprise Risk Management Framework.


Job Description:

Framework and Policy Embedment

  • Facilitate and socialise the annual refresh of the Absa Financial Services (AFS) Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF), policies and standards, including training to colleagues to ensure embedment of the ERMF, policies and standards.
  • Act as the primary custodian for all ERMF documentation, ensuring that all ERMF documentation follows appropriate governance.
  • Ensure that the Policy approvals follow the governance process at the entity boards and AFS Board and its subcommittees.
  • Use project management methodology to ensure the timeous completion of the annual ERMF, policy and Standard refreshes.
  • Act as point of contact between Group Risk Management and AFS Risk Management by representing AFS Risk Management at Group Risk forums, committees and meetings.
Governance

  • Maintain the AFS governance structures and ensure they are fit for purpose.
  • Ensure that all governance structures have appropriate Terms of Reference and that these get approved periodically
  • In support to the Chairpersons of the governance structures draft agendas for meetings and keep, store and seek approval of minutes of meetings
  • Ensure compliance with AFS Group governance framework once approved by the Board.
  • Facilitate the AFS Group annual control function and governance structures assessments.
Business Management

  • Continuously monitor the overall Business Performance of AFS Risk Management and advise the function Head of any possible deviations.
  • Manage the AFS Risk Operations, i.e. budgets, monthly expense checking, events calendar management, team communications.
  • Act as point of contact for Group Riskwide initiatives and projects.
  • Collation, coordination and implementation of the annual training plan for AFS Risk Management and submission of the required information to Group Risk People Partnering team for tracking against plan. Track training plan budget vs. spend in line with the Skills Development Scorecard.
  • Manage the contracts and relationships between AFS Risk Management and outsource service providers, partners and vendors. This includes renewal of contracts, timesheets and invoices, escalation of Business Unit concerns, budget monitoring, implementing controls for yearend billing process.
  • Provides input into the development, tracking and reporting on the AFS Risk Management Strategy.
Reporting

  • Responsible for Regulatory, Board and Management reporting activities.
  • Act as the point of entry for Risk Management reporting for AFS Group stakeholders ensuring that all Group reporting cycles are appropriately coordinated and managed.
  • Assist with the definition of valueadding and informative Risk Management reporting templates and dashboards to be utilised within the various governance reporting structures
  • Provide oversight and identifies reporting requirements across the Risk Management Universe for AFS Group.
People Management

  • Together with the People Partner for the Function, determine the people management strategy for the area with a focus on talent management, development, resourcing and retention, ensuring resource allocations are commensurate with growth/focus areas.
  • Review and sense check succession plans in place for key roles, and that these are delivered against.
  • Participate in leadership development activities across functions with a particular focus on the attraction, development and progression of Transformation, Diversity and Inclusion initiatives and people strategies
  • Review the performance of AFS Risk and ensure that there is direct alignment between the function performance and the employee performance ratings
Education and Experience Required

  • Relevant Legal or Commercial degree
  • 5 years' experience in a company secretary, governance or legal role
  • Awareness of cultural differences and varying working practices
  • Strong working experience of financial services products and processes
  • Experience in dealing with financial services' regulators

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Technical knowledge of all regulatory requirements in a financial services environment
  • In depth knowledge of governance, company secretarial and relevant legislation
