Part-Time Fixed-term contract - Program Coordinator

OceanHub Africa (OHA) is on a mission to enable African-based ocean ventures with the express aim of nurturing an environmentally conscious and profitable economy for a sustainable and equitable ocean.


Your Role:


We are looking for a part-time entrepreneurial-minded Program Coordinator who will work alongside our team of blue entrepreneurship champions to ensure smooth implementation of Entrepreneurial Support Programs dedicated to ocean-impact ventures in Africa (acceleration programs, pitch competitions, innovation challenge, alumni program, training bootcamps).

Under the supervision of our Operations Manager, your key responsibilities will be:

  • Program Management, Coordination and Logistics_
to program delivery including scheduling and following up meetings with entrepreneurs, supporting content preparation, coordinating multistakeholder online and in-person sessions, and program reporting

  • Maintain proactive engagement of experts, mentors, service providers, entrepreneurs, startups, programs' partners, strategic stakeholders to further OHA's support to its startups' portfolio
  • Monitor startups' performance and communicate with startups on project expectations and deadlines
  • Leading programs' evaluation process ensuring that lessons learned are reported and managed as required
  • Actively participate in the upgrade of acceleration program based on stakeholders' feedback and experience to draw best practices and design upgraded acceleration processes (including tools, content, planning, written material, or leaflets) for future cohorts
  • Support business development of Entrepreneurship Programs of OHA through communication, engagement, RFP screening and proposal writing
  • Create synergies with other OHA's programs and projects
  • Research and thought leadership_
  • Supporting OHA team in producing leadership pieces or case studies
  • Supporting general communications and outreach, especially in the context of promoting specific entrepreneurship programs and/or their beneficiaries (social media, mailing, website, interviews, etc)
  • Other occasional tasks_
  • Support with ad hoc tasks associated with OceanHub Africa's mandate and general activities

Job specifications:

OHA is looking for a Program coordinator on an initial fixed term contract to 1) maintain the leadership position of OHA in its ecosystem as more ocean hubs emerge, 2) participate to the fundraising efforts to sustain OHA's growth, 3) provide support to OHA's accelerated startups.

Skills and experience:

  • Honors in Business Administration, Project Management, Economic Development, or any other relevant fields
  • 2 to 5 years' work experience
  • Experience/exposure to event planning and production preferred (bonus if you have recent experience producing hybrid events and content)
  • Excellent coordination and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken
  • Keen interest in startup operations, impact investment and/or program management
  • Intrinsic motivation and passion for community and/or relationship building
  • Experience working with (or openness to learn) our team's software stack: Google Suite, Notion, Zoom, etc.
  • Strong team spirit, resourcefulness and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Wellorganized and structure in daily work

The following conditions apply:

  • Starting date as soon as possible for an initial fixedterms contract of 1 year
  • An initial contract of 20 hours weekly with a possibility to extend to a fulltime job should both parties agree
  • Paid leaves in addition to public holidays (following the official South African calendar) based on agreed start and end dates, based on accrued leaves of 15 days for an annual FTE

  • A computer and a mobile phone are necessary but not provided. Internet connection when working remotely is a necessary requirement on the employee's own account.
  • Gross monthly remuneration of R35,000R40,000 CTC for a Full Time Equivalent (R17,500R20,000 for 20 hours weekly). In addition, variable remuneration of up to 10% of gross annual salary can be awarded based on overall annu
