Our Client is looking to employ an Assistant Project Manager for minimum 12 months on a specific project.


The project site is in Pretoria, Hammanskraal, Gauteng, however the project manager can be based in Pretoria, Johannesburg, Potchefstroom area as a hybrid working environment is adopted.  The successful candidate will be required to work in office in Krugersdorp on a Tuesday and Wednesday. 


The company needs an experienced Assistant Project Manager with a well-rounded understanding of water & wastewater design-build & commission type projects. This role to support the Project Manager who manages various other projects within the organization & the scope of this specific project requires support to the Project Manager.

The project is a 50 ML per day water treatment plant for potable use to the local community type project. With the Company`s responsibility to Design, Supply, Install & Commission of Civil, Mechanical & EC&I equipment.

The appointment would be a fixed term non-permanent appointment. The duration of the contract would be 12 months with a view to establish a longer-term relationship with the Company.

The candidate must be willing to travel.

General overview

The candidate must demonstrate a well-rounded knowledge of the principles of Project Management and must be conversant and demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of the knowledge areas as defined by the PMI (PMBok standards). Practical applications of the principles of Project Management must be demonstrated.  Preference will be given to candidates with experience in water related projects.

Reporting structure:

The Assistant Project Manager will report to the Project Manager for all instructions & task.  Administratively to the Project Management Office to support execution efforts. 

Key Responsibilities:

Assist the Project Manager to managing the project from Appointment to Close-out throughout all the Process Groups & Knowledge areas required to satisfy the specifications of the contract.

Preferred Education:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related engineering degree, construction management, or related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies (PMBOK), tools, and techniques
  • Strong leadership, communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and effectively manage competing priorities and deadlines.

Recommended Experience: 

  • Min 3 years’ experience in EPC projects as a project manager or project engineer.
  • Proven Track Record of successfully delivering complex projects on time, within budget, and to client satisfaction.
