Business Unit Head - Claims

Aon South Africa is recruiting a Business Unit Head Claims based on a hybrid basis from our Head Office in Sandton. The role of the Business Unit Head: Claims is to lead and supervise the day-to-day operations of the Claims Operations and Claims Advocacy teams, whilst accelerating our Aon United Strategy to deliver improved colleague and client experiences in order to create an impact.

What the day will look like

Accelerate the Aon Business Service Plan to set a new standard for Claims service delivery

Responsible for ensuring that the Claims Department continuously aligns with regulatory requirements

Responsible for the relationship management and agreements that Aon has with service providers

Responsible for formulating and implementing divisional strategies that will maximise new business opportunities, ensure retention of existing business and realise opportunities for cross selling.

Responsible for delivering revenue targets for business unit.

Responsible for the financial management of the business unit, including annual budgeting and financial and reporting.

Responsible for analysing and interpreting data in respect of industry competitors in order to exploit emerging opportunities and develop competitive advantage.

Leading and performance-managing a significant team in the business unit.

Working in partnership with other Business Unit leaders/ heads to develop and deliver divisional initiatives.

Lead a significant team to deliver against client needs and manage the performance of that team

Ensures that processes and measures are in place for monitoring and maintaining standards of business conduct consistent with Aon Ltd and legislative and regulatory requirements.

Contributes to and participates cross functionally with Aon wide senior executive groups and committees and ad hoc project teams and other groupings as required.

Responsible for engaging in business development and/or contributing directly or indirectly to all business development efforts in Aon South Africa.

Be involved in the more sophisticated claims in order to resolve issues 

Acts as the key contact for higher profile clients

Skills and experience that will lead to success

Qualifications

Key Individual registered with FSCA Short-Term Insurance Qualification A relevant bachelor’s degree. Or a relevant tertiary insurance related qualification.

Knowledge

Comprehensive knowledge of the South African and international short-term insurance markets. In depth knowledge and strategic know-how in respect of the short-term insurance industry. In depth knowledge and broad strategic and operational know-how in respect of the intermediary business environment. Functional knowledge of legislative and regulatory requirements in the short-term industry and the intermediary business environment.

Skills and Attributes

The ability to successfully manage substantial teams. Well-developed and demonstrable analytical skills (problem-solving and decision-making). Proven and demonstrable people management skills. Personal and interpersonal gravitas and the ability to operate at all levels, including with C suite executives. Experience.

10 – 20 years of relevant experience within the insurance industry A minimum of 5 - 10 years managerial experience in the insurance industry A previous mandate to settle claims A proven record of success in applying professional principles and business judgement to solve unique problems and to develop new procedures processes and products in the insurance industry.
